Walk around the beautiful parks
If you arrive to Odense by train during the summer there is a beautiful park on the way to the center of town, right around the Opera House. Entering the curving roads of the park feels like opening the book to your own fairy tale! Beautiful flowers, and a magical tree. Let your imagination wonder! This is Hans Christian Anderson's home, and every bend of the park could hold a story. I'm sure the park has a name, but I was too involved in the surroundings to obtain specifics! This is an excellent starting point to a walking tour of this small city. When we were there there was also a beautiful family of ducks swimming in the lake.

    Odense Zoo
Odense Zoo is located close to the city center. The main reason for my visit was to see the Sea Cows – The manatees, which they don’t have in Copenhagen Zoo, where I worked. It is unique animal from South America. They are not related to other aquatic mammals and they are the only exclusively herbivorous aquatic mammal. The manatee’s closest relative is the elephant.
In Odense Zoo there are 4-5 Sea Cows in a big aquarium, and at feeding time, you’ll see them rushing around to catch the lettuce the workers through in the water. They eat a lot of it.

    Town hall
Odense town hall with elements of what seemed to be Renaissance architecture, it reminded Jennie of the architecture of Siena, in particular the "Piazza del Campo".

    Odense Banegaardsplads
One of the central plazas in Odense is Odense Banegaardsplads wich is located opposite the train station (OBC). The newspaper "Fyens Stiftstidende" has its headquarters in the building, and also a news screen on the facade towards the plaza.

  • Address: Opposite the trainstation
  • Directions: The first thing you will see getting of the train.

    Saint Albani Church
One of the first churches you stumble over in the city, Gothic style Albani is Odense's catholic church. It is known for the old version of it being where King Canute came to quench a peasant revolt in 1086, but where he was then killed by the rebels.

    Saint Knud's Cathedral
St. Knud's Cathedral cannot be missed if one visits Odense. It was built at the end of the 1400s, and it is known for its gilded alterpiece, although the church's history goes back about 900 years. As king of Denmark, St. Knud was well-remembered in Danish history as being its ruler from 1080 to 1086. Knud was killed in a peasant revolt by farmers, and there is much folklore about the slain king.

You can go inside a crypt, which may date back to 1100.

More to come here...I plan to build a travelogue.

    shopping centre
The first thing you see when you arrive to Odense by train is the huge shopping centre right at the station. It's relatively new, and has lof of funny little shops and the big cinema Biocity, which is a chain.
Right next to the centre is the library which is really convenient, if I forgot to hand in the books or need to kill some time reading papers.

    Odense Town 1
The old buildings are quite small but very nice and colourful.

This picture was taken on a Sunday morning around 9.00 am, that's why you don't see anybody around.
