In 1999 the first annual flower festival was held in Odense. Since then the festival has been growing, partly because the surroundings of Odense are filled with big flowerproducents.
The main exhibition is placed on Flakhaven (City center).
The festival is held in August, and afterwards its possible to buy the flowers at an auction.
In 2005 the theme was H.C. Andersens fairy tales as it is his 200 year birthday.
2007 theme was "Animals of the World".

Odense has a lot of beautiful and interesting half-timbered houses in the old town-centre and in the side-streets far away from the Andersen-museum as well.
Take a walk and you will find them, beautifully restored and used for everyday life and business.

My favorite part of Egeskov is the large collection of vintage cars, airplanes, agricultural machines and the collection of cars of the Falck-company, who is in charge of Fire- and emergency rescue all over Danmark.
One of the most interesting car was an old motorhome that was built for a Danish painter who had travelled with it for several years through Spain with his wife and 2 children
The motorhome had a double-roof against the hot sun in Spain, and it had a kitchen and even a bathtub inside.

Egeskov looks like a fairy-tale-castle, built on an island in a small lake about 40 km south of Odense. The castle is still inhabited by the family of Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurig-Bille and had been in posession of his family for more than 200 years now.
The wide park of Egeskov slot is open to the public. You have to pay an entrance fee of 60,- Danish Kronas and then you can see all museums there and the deer-park, a huge tree-house and a baroque garden-labyrinth.
The castle and museums are open from April to September
from 10.00 a.m. till 05.00 p.m.
in july even untill 08.00 p.m.
Entrance-fee to the park is 60,- DKR
extra-fee to visit the castle interior : 55,- DKR

The theater in Odense was built 1914-1917 and always offers an ok variety of plays.
There are three floors inside and nice interior. Recently a new restaurant was built on top of the building facing towards the "Kongens Have" gardens.

The most obvious thing to do in Odense is visit the museum of the famous fairytale writer H.C. Andersen. Of course we all know HCA for his fairy tales but there was much more to his talents. He wrote travel stories and would've been a VT member, had he lived now. He was also known for his intricate paper cuttings. The museum contains a large library of all his books in various languages, a dome where wall painting depict his life and you can also visit the house he was born in.
Entrance fee (2007):
Adult 40 DKK (5,37 euro)
Child 20 DKK (2,70 euro)
Low season, opened daily from 9-16 hrs
High season, opened daily from 9-19 hrs
There are more tips and photo's of the H.C. Andersen museum under the section Local Customs tips (from tip 12 onwards).

One of the central plazas in Odense is Odense Banegaardsplads wich is located opposite the train station (OBC). The newspaper "Fyens Stiftstidende" has its headquarters in the building, and also a news screen on the facade towards the plaza.
