There are 5 photo's in this tip, where you can see the wall paintings of HCA's life, under the glass dome in the HCA museum. When I saw them and listened to the guide, I was suddenly reminded of a very nice tv-film (or was it a series?) about his life. There was this strange trio-love affair, where he loved the opera singer Jenny Lindt but she married another. On the other side, the girl that loved him was from the family where he stayed from age 14. However, there is a growing theory that he might have been gay, which could shed a whole new light on the the tragedy of his love life.

This is very interesting to see our childhood memorie's (fairy-tales) in the museum. This house opened as H.C.Andersen Museum in 1908 and devoted to the writer's life and work. It is one of the world's oldest writer museum.
This museum has all modern facilities and you can explore H.C.Andersen's universe, browse through his books using a PC and listen to his fairytales at the many listening posts.

Sct. Canute cathedral or Odense Domkirke as it is also called is the oldest and biggest church i Odense. The present building stood finish in 1499 approximately 200 years after work on it was initiated.
The cathedral is mainly buid in gothic style. One of the curiousities of the cathedral is the crypt containing the remains of sct. Canute (sankt Knud), especially because crypts are usually a characteristic of roman style churches.

By the time Odense is mentioned for the first time in official records in 988, it was already the diocese of a bishop but had also been the centre of the Odin Cult, from which the town takes its name. The first church on the site of the present cathedral was erected around 1095, to be later converted, extended and altered many times. Yet, it still remains a splendid example of the Gothic style. The church was dedicated to St. Knud - King Knud of Denmark between the years 1080 - 1086, who was killed by rebels on 10 July 1086. More about him in the tip on St. Albani Church. When inside, try and see the crypt housing a tombstone with his earthly remains. We couldn't do that as when we were there, the church was about to be closed - on a Saturday morning - how strange.
Opening hours (so their website says):
Mon. - Sat. 10-16, Sun. 12-15
Admission free.

The Funen Village is an open-air museum that presents a Funen village milieu as it appeared in the time of Hans Christian Andersen. A visit to the museum is like travelling back to the 19th century. A village milieu has been recreated here comprising half-timbered houses, flower gardens, fences, a village pond and a village street ? and all surrounded by cultivated fields. A grazing cow or goat occasionally comes to view, as geese strut about from pond to courtyard. Visitors can follow the farming of the common field in the views between the buildings, observe old Danish livestock breeds, and inspect examples of Funen kitchen and ornamental gardens as well as gardens of cultivated plants and old, local varieties of fruit trees.

During the autumn and winter months there is a fairly large ice skateing area set up at Graabrødre plads. Ice skateing is free if you have you have your own skates, but you can lease skates for 25 kr (2005 prices) from a booth that stands just by.
When you are done iceskating its only a couple of meters to several of Odenses Cafe's where you can get a cup of coffe.
