A nice place just to walk aroung in Svendborg is the market square you see in my picture. I don't know exactly when is the market taking place there, but it is there on Saturdays till about 1p.m. for sure. Sometimes there are small open air free concerts in this square. All the old town of Svendborg is around that place. Old buildings, streets,...more
Sankt Nicolai Kirke is the oldest building in Svendborg. It was built in the first half of the 13th century and is protected by the patron saint of sea farers; Saint Nicolaus. (Yes; Santa!) The church is built in late romanic style but parts has been added later so like with other churches it is a bit of a mix of different styles. The church is open...more

An old Dutch river boat, the "Oranje" is a piece of maritime history. Sit on deck under the canvas roof and enjoy the view of the harbour, or move below deck to the magnificent dining hall.
The food is everything from fish to lamb, and comes in generous helpings. A large menu makes it easy to compose a 3 or 5 dish dinner, and with a well-stocked wine cellar, you will find everything, you might wish.
The staff are very friendly and prefessional, and will be happy to tell you about the boat and its history. Don't be surprised if you are offered second helpings - free of charge.
Favorite Dish: Be sure to try one of the exellent fish soups as a starter. They are absolutely amazing. Also, if you choose to sit on deck, ask to see the dining hall below, it's worth a look!

There is nothing special about shops in Svendborg. Souvenir, clothes and alike shops are in the center of the city, the furniture, food and other bigger shops are mostly located quite far from the center. The special thing about Svendborg (or even Denmark in general) - there are second-hand shops, very popular among danish people. They sell furniture, dishes, bikes, books, clothes, lamps, pictures and many other things. These shops are working only several days a week and they are full of people wanting to find something old and special or just to buy something cheap.
Don't leave your car for a long time unattended in Svendborg. Sometimes the thieves may crash your car window and steal the players or your own things. It is ok for a day or several, but this may happen during a night if your car stood in the same place for some time especially unmoved. If you are going by bike, don't forget to lock it!
Sailing is probably the most popular activity in Svendborg (in summer of course). Although if you want to have some sport during the other time of a year you can go to the sport clubs (there are around 4 sport clubs, but I should say all of them not so nice) or a swimming pool.
Fondest memory: While we were waiting, several sailboats passed by. It made for a pleasant diversion while sitting at the dock.
