by TheView In library’s of most towns if not all you can borrow a computers with internet access for free. Just go to the librarian and ask if they have internet asset and they will be very nice to guide you to a computer and give instructions about passwords or what kind of system they use as this differs from library to library. This is very nice if you are on a road trip and like to check your mail on VT ;-)

lars von trier by cachaseiro the danish movie scene is very vibrant and a lot of good stuff is coming out from there at the moment. this is very much thanks to the director lars von trier who spend all the money that he makes on his movies on new productions and gives a lot of young talents a chance to show what they can do. try and check out a couple of danish movies before your trip. Doctors aid (Lægevagten) If you get ill during you stay and its no as bad as you need to go to the hospital. If your staying in a hotel the staff will surly be helpful to contact the medical aid. If you on your own you have to call the “Lægevagten”. As a temporary foreign visitor, you are entitled to free medical treatment in hospitals and emergency wards if you are taken ill or have an accident, provided that you have not travelled to Denmark with the intention of obtaining treatment and are physically unable to return to your own country. As a citizen of an EU country visiting Denmark, you are covered by public health insurance within the limits agreed upon between your own country and the Danish authorities. If you are a citizen of a non-EU country, you should ensure that you have adequate health insurance. Check with your travel agency or your insurance company. Just phone +45 70 13 00 41

These are really amazing facts about Denmark, that I couldn't resist from borrowing this from the Internet: Denmark has the oldest capital city and the oldest flag in Europe. There are more pigs than humans in Denmark! Denmark actually gets its name from the Danes, people from Sweden who moved to the country in about 500 AD. Greenland is geographically part of the North American continent, but is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Denmark has 500km of clean sandy beaches, and the cleanest sea in the European Union. In the past Denmark has had Kings called Harold Bluetooth and Sweyn Forkbeard Denmark has the oldest monarchy in the world – it goes back over 1,000 years. Although it’s near to Canada and has it’s own government, Greenland is actually a part of Denmark. Greenland is the world's largest island with an area of 2,175,600 sq km. Nearly a quarter of all Danes have the surname Jensen, Nielsen or Hansen. Two-thirds of the population have a surname ending in ‘sen’. Leave a Comment

Leave a Comment

swans by cachaseiro the swan is the national bird of denmark. one reason is that you see a lot of them here and another one is that hans christian andersen wrote the famous fairytale anbout the ugly duckling. it's also one bird that dosen't migrate south when it gets cold in the winter so you will see it no matter what time of year you come as long as you hit the danish shores. by lmkluque Dragor is an old fishing village in Danmark just outside of Copenhagen. It is here you can see the thatched roofs as they were hundreds of years ago, on buildings located near the still busy wharf and the pedestrian walking streets full of restaurants and shops. While in Copenhagen it is worth a visit to Dragor. You'll find more information about this quaint village on my Dragor page.
One of my fondest memories in Dragor was sitting around the dinner table with Sten, one of my Danish students, and his mom, learning about the Danish tradition of finding the almond in the rice pudding, which is served after Christmas dinner. This evening I found the almond and received a glass etching of the The Little Mermaid as my gift. Leave a Comment

by lmkluque Getting to know Danish people was a great reward! This livingroom is in the converted old train station of Hellum and you can read a bit more about this very small country town on my Hellum page.
Fondest memory of Danmark is meeting my pen-pal, Connie and her family for the first time, Exploring her world and finding out that even though we knew each other only by letters, albeit twenty seven years of letters, we knew each other as well as if we had been living next-door to each other all our lives. The picture is of Connie’s living room where we spent hours talking about "Old Times." Leave a Comment
