Not Too Much Rotten in the State of Denmark

by Insomnia07

I just got back home to London from a holiday to Denmark, and I am missing it already! Truly one of the nicest places I think I have visited. The only bleamish was that fool that ran onto the pitch to attack the referee at the Denmark v Sweden Euro 2008 Qualifier I was at (and supporting Denmark!), which if the match is awarded to Sweden could cost the Danes a place in the competition! The Danish people are ultra friendly. Being an Australian I was made extra welcome, as you may know Princess Mary "was" Australian before meeting Prince Fredrick! Honestly though, they are a lovely couple and still visit Australia reguarly for the record.I loved Copenhagen, honestly I could live there! I am sure I shall be heading back to Denmark as soon as possible.

copenhagen street scenes

by cachaseiro

if you are in copenhagen in the summer you should take a walk through the pedestian area and listen to street musicians while you are drinking the beer you bought in a cheap supermarket(about 8 times cheaper than a street cafe) and enjoy that copenhagen is one of the most laid back capitals in europe.

the swan is our national bird.

by cachaseiro

the swan is the national bird of denmark.one reason is that you see a lot of them here and another one is that hans christian andersen wrote the famous fairytale anbout the ugly duckling.it's also one bird that dosen't migrate south when it gets cold in the winter so you will see it no matter what time of year you come as long as you hit the danish shores.

Observations: similarities

by ATLC

Denmark is quite similar to The Netherlands. Flat for a large part. Very clean. Even the language is quite readable if you speak Dutch. Like in The Netherlands, the Danish eat plenty of seafood. Herring and shrimp feature a lot on menus. A homecooked meal looks and tastes similar. My fondest memory of Denmark dates back when I was two and got a white lamb, made of sugar, with a red ribbon at a family Christmas dinner in Denmark.

Medical aid.

by TheView

Doctors aid (Lægevagten) If you get ill during you stay and its no as bad as you need to go to the hospital. If your staying in a hotel the staff will surly be helpful to contact the medical aid. If you on your own you have to call the “Lægevagten”.As a temporary foreign visitor, you are entitled to free medical treatment in hospitals and emergency wards if you are taken ill or have an accident, provided that you have not travelled to Denmark with the intention of obtaining treatment and are physically unable to return to your own country. As a citizen of an EU country visiting Denmark, you are covered by public health insurance within the limits agreed upon between your own country and the Danish authorities. If you are a citizen of a non-EU country, you should ensure that you have adequate health insurance. Water posts

by TheView

If you are on a road trip that be on bike, bicycle or by car its nice to get some fresh clean tap water. You should never have any lack of water in Denmark as long as you remember that with most churches there comes a graveyard. As tradition is in Denmark there are flowers and plants on the graves and for this the graveyards facilitates the watering. There is some 291 graveyards/water posts scattered around the country -Enjoy!

Free personal computer access.

by TheView

In library’s of most towns if not all you can borrow a computers with internet access for free. Just go to the librarian and ask if they have internet asset and they will be very nice to guide you to a computer and give instructions about passwords or what kind of system they use as this differs from library to library. This is very nice if you are on a road trip and like to check your mail on VT ;-)

Life in Denmark

by tracknfield

This wonderful country i have fallen in love with after a year of living there. Danes have a truely special culture, different from any country i have ever been to. I lived near the city of Odense which is on the island of Fyn. This city is the birth place of famous childrens writer Han Christen Andersen and if you wish you can visit his house. This is a nice town with lots of shopping and tourist spots. I would recommend visiting this city and enjoying it just like i have for the 9 months i lived there. The memory that holds a special place in my heart is danish christmas. It is about family times and spending it with family, not about presents like in US. It is on christmas eve starting about 4 in the afternoon and until 2 or 3 in the morning. The way christmas is celebrated is first starting with the meal and then there is the present time. everyone gets around the tree and walks...
