A lot of history in an old painting....

by 850prc

We were directed to a portrait of the Danish royal family hanging in the Christiansborg palace. One by one, the members of the family were pointed out, and their connection to many other royal families throughout Europe was discussed. The thing I remember was the little girl crawling on the floor in the picture's foreground. She ended up a member of the Romanov family in Russia, and died at the hands of the Bolsheviks in 1918.

Christiansborg Palace

by 850prc

We very much enjoyed our visit to one of Denmark's royal palaces, Christiansborg. Located in the heart of the Danish capital, Christiansborg is exquisitely furnished and meticulously maintained.I'd never want to be FAMOUS royalty, but being an insignificant but wealthy duke or count could be fun. At Christiansborg, the state dining room was very impressive. I couldn't imagine doing the dishes for a crowd of 200 people. ; )

Odense....home of fairytale king H. C. Andersen

by 850prc

The city of Odense is the home town of Hans Christian Andersen, beloved all over the world for his creative and magical fairytales. It's easy to see how he was inspired to such wonder. The street outside his birthplace looks to be from a page in a bedtime storybook. Stepping outside the Hans Christian Andersen house, only to find a perfect scenic scene just waiting to be photographed. The resulting photo is the lead picture on my Denmark page.Wasn't the bicycle leaning up against the wall a nice little touch? : )

Danish Pastries...you have to LEARN to make them

by 850prc

Be SURE to sample some of Denmark's sinfully rich candies and pastries during your visit. There is a reason that sweet pastries all over the world are called "Danish" pastries. Everyone is familiar with the breadth and quality of "danish pastries". Well, the Danes are fine people, but they're not born knowing how to blend top quality butter, sugar and flour into the magical creations that find their way into the country's coffee shops. One day in Copenhagen, we were lucky enough to see a class of chefs "graduating". They celebrated by jumping into a city fountain. And yes.....it was pretty cold.

Skagen

by benny_chemnitz

The coastal town of Skagen on the northernmost tip of Jutland ("Mainland Denmark") is a must-see. Forget the larger and boring provincial towns (you can get caffe latte all over the world!) and go to this small but cozy seaside resort instead. It's a really lovely place, Scandinavian artists have flocked to it for centuries, and there should be restaurants and hotels to suit all tastes save for the ultra-luxury segment. I have a whole bag of fond childhood memories of Denmark... of course I love it. Although it may not be the most exciting country to visit as a tourist, it sure was a nice place to grow up!

Danish winter

by travelife

Snow does not stay long in Denmark... max. a week due to its position as a peninsula receiving strong wind and frequent rains. But it brings all the charms of white world for a while with several inches of snow everywhere.

A LOVELY EXPERIENCE TO VISIT...

by eden_teuling

A LOVELY EXPERIENCE TO VISIT this country that looks a bit like The Netherlands but (luckily for them....) has less inhabitants!!More space for rolling, green meadows dotted with numerous flowers, woods and forests, lovely farms........... Climbing the tower in COPENHAGEN.......the TOWN HALL TOWER and our guide was such a nice man; he told us all we had to know (according to him!) It was obvious that he loved his city!

danish movies

by cachaseiro

the danish movie scene is very vibrant and a lot of good stuff is coming out from there at the moment.this is very much thanks to the director lars von trier who spend all the money that he makes on his movies on new productions and gives a lot of young talents a chance to show what they can do.try and check out a couple of danish movies before your trip.

Shopping food stuff

by aweiss

Denmark has different shops, which offers different products for different needs of the customer. For cheap food stuff you should buy in Netto (www.netto.dk), which is a dansih discounter. There are many Netto shops in denmark and many Danish people go shopping there. Another cheap store for food stuff is Aldi, which is a subsidiary of Aldi Nord from Germany. You can buy cheap products there too, but the choice isn't so good as in Netto. If you look for high quality products you should go to fýtex (www.foetex.dk). They offer a wide range of produkts. The quality of these produkts is very high but the price too.You need special things? Then you have to go shopping at Bilka (www.bilka.dk). In Bilka you can get everything. Really everything.Tip: If you go shopping, then pay attention to the sign, on which is written: tilbud. This shows a special offer, if you take 2, 3 or more pieces. These...

Calling in Denmark

by aweiss

If you want to phone in Denmark, there are different possibilites. If you seldom call to friends or to abroad, you can use one of the red telephone boxes. For cheap calls you should use the Global One Card (www.globalcalling.com). You can get it at every danisch post office for at least 100 DKK. And with this card you can call from every telephone box and mobilephone. But if you want to use your mobile, you can get a prepaid card by telmore (www.telmore.dk). Telmore offers very cheap prices for telephone conversations and SMS in Denmark. You order the prepaid card only by the internet and you can only charge your account by the internet. You pay with your credit card.Another solution is a prepaid card by Sonofon (www.sonofon.dk), which isn't so cheap like telmore. You can get the prepaid card at every sonofon-shop and sometime at the post office and in bigger stores. You don't have to buy...
