a great self-service-restaurant

by globetrott

In one of the buildings you find a great self-service restaurant My absolute favorite dish in Danmark is Smörebröd - it simply means "bread and butter" but is a sort of sophisticated open sandwich with great toppings....and my favorite Smörbröd is the one with Liver-pâte on top

the baroque garden

this is part of the baroque garden with plenty of trees and bushes cut in a way, they look like animals The castle itself may be partly visited for an extra fee at restricted opening-hours.

just to kill a misunderstanding

by elsebeth

All the evidence suggests that the Vikings never actually wore helmets with horns, and there is no explanation as to where this image came from. All we know about horned helmets is that they were used in religious ceremonies in Northern Europe in the first millennium.

the first impression

by elsebeth

The first thing many visiters to Denmark will notice first is the Copenhagen airport. It had reopened a couple of years ago after a major rebulding which has resulted in a very nice airport, which has won a lot of awards for best design etc.the airport is now connected with rest of Denmark by rail and the trains from all over Denmark end at Copenhagen airport after a short stop at the Copenhagen central station . It saves a lot of time when u r going to Funen and Jutland

DRAGOR

by lmkluque

Dragor is an old fishing village in Danmark just outside of Copenhagen. It is here you can see the thatched roofs as they were hundreds of years ago, on buildings located near the still busy wharf and the pedestrian walking streets full of restaurants and shops. While in Copenhagen it is worth a visit to Dragor. You'll find more information about this quaint village on my Dragor page. One of my fondest memories in Dragor was sitting around the dinner table with Sten, one of my Danish students, and his mom, learning about the Danish tradition of finding the almond in the rice pudding, which is served after Christmas dinner. This evening I found the almond and received a glass etching of the The Little Mermaid as my gift.

Get to know the locals

by GBishop524

On the street the people are friendly and helpful. Most speak english, but dont let this be an excuse for you not to try to learn some Danish. It's the polite thing to do and they seem to apriciate the effort. On a one on one level once the local people get past the mind set that America is wroght with violent gun slinging fiends and that murder is a daily event they are very friendly and always looking for a beer and a laugh.

Copenhagen

by furioso

Copenhagen has been the capital of Denmark for 600 years and is also the largest city in Scandinavia, but it hasn't let these high-ranking geopolitical facts go to its urban head - the city maintains a refreshingly low-level approach to the modernisation of its historic skyline, while its high-spirited denizens party in the streets. The city's seemingly interminable pedestrian mall, Strøget, supplies numerous options for shopping and entertainment, from street theatre to offstreet theatre, while the famous Tivoli fun park serves up amusement in more traditional forms and the cosmopolitan Latin Quarter will leave you covered in aromatic coffee grounds. There's plenty of the green stuff in the city centre, with a couple of large parks and gardens in which to doze or ramble. If even that sounds too energetic, try a cruise through the canals of Christianshavn, saving just enough adrenalin for...

I did some camping in Billund,...

by dreamworld

I did some camping in Billund, visited the Legoland park over there which is a MUST DO if u ever played Lego when u were a child (I did). Then we saw a beautiful castle in Fredriksburg about 50 km west of Copenhagen.Copenhagen is a pleasant city, with the Tivoli park for fun. If u like it, go and visit the Tuborg brewery, they give u free beers at the end of the tour. Don't be surprised about the sex-shops throughout the city. Copenhagen is known as the 'sex capital of Europe'. They have very cool laws which I fully support.

Copenhague, where the mermaid waits for you

by Pavlik_NL

Visit Copenhague the capitol. This town is - though pretty big, a warmwelcoming place for all. Like in my own country, tolerance is high in top and one can notice it everywhere. It seems almost obvious to say that cold winters make people warmer. Scandinavian people are friendly and know an amazing hospitality. They like to chat and make there living environment cosy. Maybe the reason whty fairytales are collected and kept in the folklore of this country. Long winternights are inviting to sit together at the fireplace and listen to eachothers stories. Though met in Willingen - Suaerland - Germany, Bettina is my best memory of Denmark. Just the year before I was floating on wings through the beauty of Tivoli by night and here she was, a flutiste from one of the orchestra's from Tivoli. She lived in Roskilde, where we stayed and it's a shame we didn't stay in contact.
