The Danes' attitude to smoking is generally quite liberal and according to the statistics 34% of the population are smokers. But if you walk through the streets it looks like almost everybody is smoking:-) Smoking is permitted in most cafes and restaurants. People smoke free in the streets, inside universities or big shopping centres.
OK or not?
Smoking is no longer permitted in public environments such as governmental buildings, hospitals and schools. This also applies in trains, S-trains, Metro and buses. Furthermore smoking is looked upon with disapproval in a growing number of private enterprises where you will encounter the no smoking sign.
Wherever you are, it is always a good idea to check before you light up and to show consideration for non-smokers in general.
