Rust: Club Venue
UPDATE: Currently closed due to shootings at the door related to the drug war in Copenhagen.
Rust, named after Mathias Rust, is a long time favourite on Skt Hans Torv in Nørrebro. Started out as trashy rock/punk venue in a trashy part of town in 1990, but both those facts have changed since then. Skt Hans Torv is now one of the trendiest areas in Town with French style cafés with outdoor serving. Much have changed since police opened fire on demonstrants in this square in 93 after a EU referendum.
The club itself has two floors and sometimes it starts of with a live band at the main floor. The usual MO is electronic music in the basement and more mainstream music (house) in the main room.
Rust is open Wednesday to Saturday and all nights are quite popular. There's a definite Q risk on Friday/Saturday so come early.
Dress Code: None
Rust: Club/bar/live performance
Rust is a cozy little club a bit off the beaten path (at least for tourists). You will find a greater variety of people here than at the big discos in the centre of town. Their dj-ing schedule changes all the time, but they tend to play funk, chill-out and rap/R&B. Two dance floors, but one of them is very very small. If you want to find the willing 18 year old girls this may not be the place for you(the people range from 20 to 35 rather than from 16 to 20 as in many clubs) but if you want to try clubbing in a more intimate atmosphere, you'll love it. They also have live bands playing at times, but can't comment on those performances as i haven't been to any. It's a bar before 12 or 1 o'clock, when the dance floors open.
Dress Code: Many club-goers in copenhagen are very dressed up to go out. In rust, they're not.
Rust.: No rest in rust
If you like live performances you have to visit this place. On wednesday it's mainly Hip Hop tainted. And on the other days it can vary. There three places where you can chill. One is like the cafe/bar where you can drink. It's open from I think 19.00 or 21.00. The other is the main area where most performances are held and the main dance area is. This is normally open from 23.00 unless there is some sort of special event. And then the basement. This is a smaller room but also good.
On wednesday you have Midweek Brakes. It's a great or perhaps the best hip hop party in Copenhagen. You have had artists like Ty (UK), Wordsworth, Aloë Blacc, Spankrock. you name it, they probably had them.
Dress Code: There is no real dress code, just don't over do it by coming it with a bathrobe.
We asked our waiter where stuff to do was. He suggested Rust. It is in the Northern part of the city. Mostly breakbeat type of stuff, a little hip hop. Overall a good time.About 60DKK cab ride from Radhusplasen each way. Beer wasn't too expensive from what I remember. Considering that we were staying next to Rosie McGees, which was a little too hokey for our taste, it was a breath of fresh air.
Dress Code: Pretty laid back.
This is the Rust one Copenhagens hot spots. Dress nice but wear clothes that will let you breath!!! It will be so packed that you wont be able to move. This is not exactly what I like myself. The drinks are spendy and it is hotter than hell. The people are beautiful but I think personally that there are better places in town so I guess you make the choice. I personally suggest the Copenhagen Jazz House but whatever.
Rust: one of the best venues in town
I've been to a couple of gigs in here, and its a very small place, and the gigs Ive been to have been very crowded.
The stage is very low and it feel like the bands stand amongst the audience which bring a very special atmosphere..
