get out and take the next bus back

by globetrott

You may walk to the "tip of Danmark" on your own or you may take the "Sandormen" the "Sandormen" will take you there and you may leave the wagon, take as much time as you want and finally take one of the many buses back - they run all day !

the very tip of Danmark

by globetrott

When you take a look on a map of Danmark, you will see something like a tiny finder reaching out to the sea above Skagen. And when you are in Skagen you will realize the really rather small size of that finger. when you click on the pic, you will see the small peninsula reaching out into the open sea - and the "Sandormen" is parked there also - the distance to walk would be around 1 km from the parking - if you would like to walk instead of going by "Sandormen"

Holger Drachman grave

by globetrott

Holger Drachman was a sailor, an adventurer and painter, who also wrote books about his travels - he died in 1908 and is buried close to Skagerak in the Dunes. When searching for his grave, you have to look out for the point, where lots of flags are blowing in the wind. This place is also a perfect spot to take photographs, as it is a bit higher than the other places.

Grass on the roof of the kiosk

by globetrott

Close to the parking you will see this great building with a roof, totally covered by grass. This is a funny and also certainly very clever way to isolate a house's roof, keeping out the cold winter storms and also isolating the hot summersun...

Skagerak - the Baltic-seaside

by globetrott

The side of the Baltic sea is much more windy than the Atlantic side. But the beach is very flat there and walking into these funny waves is easy and without danger ! Somehow I expected the Baltic sea to be totally calm and without waves & the Atlantic side with high waves...but in the contrary from the Baltic Sea - here to be seen on the right - the waves are rather high, and almost not visible on the Atlantic-side.

The Atlantic-side

by globetrott

This is the "Atlantic-side" of Skagerak the Atlantic side is rather quiet and the waves are not very spectacular on the Atlantic side of Skagerak !Nevertheless it is really dangerous - and absolutely forbidden - to swim there !!

nice landscape

by globetrott

Lighttowers like this one are a good chance to take a picture of the great coastline. Some of the lighthouses have a cafe and you are allowed to walk up against a small fee. ...and there is much more to see and explore on Skagerak

Sandormen

by globetrott

Sandormen is the traktor with the wagon called that will take you to the very tip of Danmark - it runs every 20 minutes or so and will take up to 35 passengers.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Sandormen" means Sandworm - as it is finding it's way through the dunes and sands...

a meeting of Atlantic,Baltic Sea and Globetrott ..

by globetrott

This is a very unique place - looking on the pic to your left is the North Sea - it would normally be the rough Sea, big differences between ebb and tide at many places, rough weather and high seas while going up to Iceland - - but here it is calm and almost no waves at all...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~On this pic to your right is the Baltic Sea - and it would normally have no or just very smooth waves - - but here it was rather rough and steady heavy waves reaching the shores....And in my understanding these strong waves would normally shovel away this sandy beach within a day - - but it stayed the same all centuries and makes the very northern Tip of Danmark

Skagen - the town is 5 Km from Skagerak

by globetrott

In the town of Skagen you will see plenty of great buildings with lovely architecture ! the small town of Skagen is certainly also worth a walk and a good place to do some shopping.
