Morsø

by lbhspatriot

Mors is a little and land locked island in the shallow pathways called the Limfjorden. The main town on the island is called Nykøbing Mors and is a little town with friendly locals and beautiful views. Geologically Mors is unique. Mors, as the neighbouring island of Fur, is known for its deposits of diatomite, locally known as 'moler' (mo-clay). You can enter the island by a large bridge or a ferry. This is a nice place to relax while visiting the Jesperhus Flower Park, located south west of Nykøbing. In the park there are over one million species of plants including cacti, palms, a variety of roses and many more colourful flowers. The park also has a butterfly reserve, aquarium, aviary, terrarium and hatching center. If you like nature this is a great place to visit. My personal favourite was the Hanklit situated on the northern coast of the island and is a beautiful cliff face and...

Samsø

by lbhspatriot

Samsø is a Danish island 15 kilometers off the Jutland Peninsula. This island is special because it is the first place fully powered by sustainable energy. Samsø won a government competition to become a model renewable energy community, 100% of its electricity comes from wind power!!!!The island is also known for its early potatoes which are considered a delicacy - they are really yummy! But not if you are on a budget, because they are also expensive. If you are in this part of Denmark it is definately worth a trip to go and see a place powered by a wind farm (10 turbines), vehicles run on biofuel grown on the island and solar power electricity. You can learn more about different and alternative energy sources in the Energy Academy that has opened in Ballen, with a visitor education center.

Mandø

by lbhspatriot

Mandø is a island on Danish Wadden Sea just off the southwest coast of Jutland. The island is located near Ribe and Esbjerg. Mandø is located midway between the two larger islands Fanø and Rømø which are connected to the mainland by a ferry and a road running across a causeway. Extensive mud areas and tidal marshes circle the island and are home for a variatey of different species (mostly birds). An unpaved causeway leads to Mandø , but the island is barely accessible at high tide. The causeway leads through five kilometeres of Wadden Sea and connect the island with the coast of Jylland, the journey itself is pretty impressing - imagine yourself driving on a road surrounded by mudflats and tidal marshes! So if you want to travel by your own vehicle you can access Mandø via this road, which is located near the town of Vester Vedsted. But this is not the only (and most fun) way to access...

Cruise to Helsinborg, Sweden from Helsingör

by hopang

An interesting day trip out of the city of Copenhagen if you have time to spare when you are having a vacation in Copenhagen is to take a day trip to Helsingborg in Sweden. You may either take trains or buses to Helsingör (Elsinore) from Central Copenhagen. You will cross the Sound by ferries. There are several operators operating ferry services linking Helsingör with Helsingborg such as the Scandlines and HH Ferries. It takes just 20 minutes to travel by ferries between the two ports due to the short distance, the shortest between Denmark and Sweden.Among the popular tourist attractions in Helsingborg are Kärnan or the Kernel, Stortorget, Brunnby Church, St. Mary's Church, Convert Hall, Town Hall, Dunkers Culture Center, Jakob Hansens House, Municipal Museum, Fredriksdal Open-air Museum, Öresund Park and Hesingborg City Centre.

Tisvilde

by TheView

The town of Tisvilde is situated on the north cost of Zealand. The towns name goes way back and tells the ancient story of worship to the Good of war Tyr also named Ti and vilde that comes from old Danish word "væld", meaning a spring. Making it Ti’s- spring. As the place of the War Good it was also here sacrifices was made to him often in the form of prisoners of war after battles. Maybe the ancient importance of this place can be seen from that, there in the wetlands below has been found the oldest Danish road system dating back to 2800 BC as a Woodbridge that was later (500-150 BC) made into a stone mounted road of 150 meters. When Christianity was introduced in Denmark Tibirke church (1120-1130) was made next to the spring and the name of the spring turned into the spring of saint Helene very typical of the Church to plaster ancient believes with new predicates and hope that people...

Nice danish countryside.

by cachaseiro

The southern part of the island Fyn is a little tucked away, but it´s a very sceneic part of denmark and very family friendly. It´s called the garden of denmark because of it´s gentle nature and if you don´t mind water that is a little cold evebn in the summer, then it´s also a good place to go swimming as the area has many good beaches.

Jelling Viking Mounds

by Eurtravfam

The little town of Jelling has a fantastic museum and a in-depth history of the Viking clans. Well worth a trip if Viking is your heritage. Jelling is the site of two great Tumulus mounds erected in the late 900-s. One of the mounds is presumeably a burial mound, perhaps of King Gorm of Denmark. This mound contained a wooden chamber, but no remains of a burial. The other mound had no chamber. The site is shrouded in mystery, as it has always been connected to King Gorm and Queen Thyra, the parents of King Harold I of Denmark (Harold Bluetooth, Danish: Harald Blåtand), who also erected a large runic stone and a Christian church on the spot. At a central place under the church floor a grave containing the remains of a man has been excavated. This is interpreted as the remains of the (re)burial of Gorm.

The Faroe-islands

by globetrott

The Faroe-islands are part of Danmark as well, although they are listed like an independant state on VT. I came several times to these remote islands, when-ever our cruise-ship M/S Vistafjord was on her way to Iceland. You may see this great cruiseship, where I was working for more than 4 years, on my main picture, anchored off the Faroe islands close to the famous rock "The Hag"Some of the houses of Thorshavn are covered with grass, the climate is quite rough but still under influence of the golf-stream.
