by ginte Denmark prides itself on being a bicycle-friendly country. The country is crisscrossed with thousands of kilometers of established cycling routes, including 10 long-distance ones. The shortest of the stamina-testers runs for 100km around the perimeter of Bornholm, while the longest runs along the west coast of Jutland some 500km from the German border to Skagen. The most popular cycling tour in the Copenhagen area is the 12-kilometre ride north to Dyrehaven, much of it skirting the Øresund coast, but also darting down pleasant woodland trails. All around the country, from the southern shores of Bornholm to the northernmost tip of Jutland, there are numerous swimming opportunities along sandy strands. Denmark also has some excellent spots for windsurfing (called 'surfing' in Danish), varying from the open sea, favoured by pros, to inland fjords and sheltered coastal inlets where calm waters are ideal for beginners. With over 7300km of coastline and hundreds of islands, Denmark offers excellent yachting possibilities. There are lots of calm-water fjords and protected seas, such as Smondshavet (the area nestled between Zealand and Lolland), as well as the island-dotted waters south of Funen. Denmark abounds in streams and lakes, many of which are stocked with pike, perch and trout. The saltwater fishing possibilities are nearly endless; the most common saltwater fish are cod, mackerel, plaice and sea trout. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by elsebeth handball is a good example on danish spirit We love a sport that not too many other people have heard of. When we are number one in something then this event is the biggest in the world. There are only a few other countries in the world who is interested in handball but it doesnt stop us from worshipping it. WE have won the olympics 4 years ago on the woman side. but the team isnt too good at the moment but we cheer as if its the best. that the danish spirit. WE won the 2004 olympics. Guess the team wasnt so bad after all:-) Leave a Comment Theme: Other

At bars in Denmark there is played a game of billiard named Skomager (Shoemaker) it’s a more then 100 years old Danish game and is only played in Denmark. The billiard table for the game is a bit larger then a pool table and the pockets is a bit smaller in the centre of the table there is put up five cones, four smaller around a larger in the centre. You have a red cue ball and tow white balls. The aim of the game is to get from 60 points you start with down to zero. The points is made from hitting the two white balls with the red cue ball (4 points) or getting the two white balls to hit each other (4 points) you can only make 4 points from making whites or reds in a turn, getting a white ball in to a pocket (2 points) or by knocking over the cones with the white balls after they have been into a side cushion (2 points for each cone or 6 points for the centre cone if you only knock this single one over). This is all good points that you subtract from your 60 points until you get to or below Zero, the last point has to include a cone knocked over. If you make fouls like knocking over a cone (same points as above) with the red ball getting the red ball into a pocket hitting the red ball of the table (6 points) hitting the cones direct with the red ball (6 points plus the points for the cones knocked over). This foul points is subtracted from you opponent/s score. You can play it with more players then two and its played in turns so you only get one shot at the time. The rules my differ a bit depending on the local custom. The normal thing is to play for a round of beer or a beer from loser to winner/s or what you agree upon. Theme: Other

Thursday 2pm-10pm, Friday 12pm-midnight, Saturday 10am-midnight and Sunday 1pm-9pm, up to May 18th, 2008, with reservation for changes. Their prices are 90DKK weekdays until 5pm, 120 DKK after 5pm. Saturdays 65 DKK until 1pm, 120 DKK until 6pm and 160 DKK until midnight. Sundays 120 DKK until 6pm, 65 DKK until closing time. Renting the shoes costs 10 DKK extra.

Do you feel like swimming in a pool at a non-crowded place? Are you close to Nørresundby? Then Svømmeland is the place to go. They have several pools, one with some massaging jets and hot water (in their Aqua-relax department). Try also their saunas (indoor or outdoor), their Finnish bath, their steam bath and their Aqua-fun slide. Practical info: the Aqua-fun is open Monday-Thursday 9:30am-7:25pm, Friday 9:30am-5:25pm, weekends and red days 9:30am-3:25pm. Their Aqua-relax is open Monday 7am-8:25pm, Tuesday and Thursday 09.30-20.25, Wednesday 07.00-21.25, Friday 07.00-17.25 and weekends and red days 09.00-15.25. The entrance fees are from 30 DKK for adults and 25 DKK for children on a one-day ticket, depending on what you wanna do. Observe that you must hit the showers and get wet before entering the pools, for hygienic reasons.
Bring your swimsuit, goggles, towels and shampoo, etc if you plan on washing your hair afterwards. They have towels for rent there too.

If you like bowling and you happen to be in Nørresundby then this is the place to visit. They're small in comparison to the alleys in Aalborg but they're lots of fun just as well. You can rent the alley for 30 minutes or more. They also sell some snacks and drinks and have a buffet restaurant but we didn't try those. Practical info: open Sunday-Tuesday 10am-10pm, Wednesday 10am-11pm, Thursday 10am-midnight, Friday 10am-2am and Saturday noon-2am, with reservation for holidays.
You rent what you need there. Theme: OtherAddress: Strandvejen 7, AalborgWebsite: www.seaport.dk (only in Danish)

Cycling the coast of Bornholm by Sjalen Denmark is an ideal biking country. The south of Zealand, mid Jutland and northern Bornholm are hilly, but by no means as strenuous as mountain regions. The rest of the country is more or less flat (if windy!). The environmental consciousness of politicians have also left both towns and countryside full of cycle paths with amenities not too far between. Some belong to a national network and other local/regional ones compliment those. Bikes can be put on trains (high speed ones need reservation and it is also advised for others in high season) whilst with ferries it depends on where you are going. Most hostels have good parking facilities for bikes. My own favourite cycling landscapes so far are Funen and Bornholm. You can also ask the biking viking, VT's Claus (cachaseiro) for more advise.
The Danish cyclists association (see link) has all the maps you need and the tourist offices can also help as can www.scanmap.dk in Copenhagen. As for bikes, you can rent them on location (again, often by tourist offices) or bring your own by air or by train from Germany/Sweden. All you need to make sure is that you have functioning lights and so on for it. Leave a Comment
