The Jellinge stones is a landmark in Danish history as it tells of the conversion from the Vikings Aesir believe to Christianity in the middle of the 10th century. Why this change in religion? It’s a case of dispute. Some says it happened after a priest came and convinced the Danish king of the true believe by miraculously caring burning iron without getting any wounds. A more rational explanation is that the king was under pressure from the Roman empire via. The archbishop of Hamburg that like to use the Danes pagan believe as an excuse for a attack on Denmark. By introducing Christianity like this the king could appoint his own archbishop and by that avoid that the Danes had to pay tax out of the country, as this was the worst disgrace that could happen. The large stones inscription says something like; Harald king had this memorial made after Gorm his father and after Thorvi his mother, the Harald that won all of Denmark and Norway and made the Danes christen. The little stone says something like; King Gorm made this memorial after his wife Thorvi Denmark’s beauty. This is also the oldest text where Denmark as a name is preserved . The stones are placed between the two large burial mounds of Thorvi and Gorm, and soon after there was made a little church next to the stones. The church had a major renovation in year 2000 so it now stand as a mix in style as the old country church with a modern interior. There has been made a new museum across the street giving more historical inside. The best thing of the large stone is the dragon on the little side, it looks like it has been captured by something coming down form above … you can guess how I fell about it. The stones is one of only three Danish world heritage sites.

by hopang The statue of Little Mermaid is located on the shore of Langelinie, just a short distance from the main cruise pier. It is based on the fairy tale by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The statue of Little Mermaid was designed by Edward Eriksen in 1913 and was made of bronze. Today it is a symbol and landmark of Copenhagen as well as Denmark. However many foreign tourists are disappointed at what they see simply because the statue is comparatively small. It was and still is a victim of vandalism. On several occasions the limbs have to be replaced! Leave a Comment Directions: Located on the shore of Langelinie, only a short distance from the main cruise pier in downtown Copenhagen.

Pedestrian street of Stroget in Copenhagen is no exception. The gimmick as depicted in our photograph on the right is making a living in the streets of Copenhagen.
