Frederiksborg Castle

by Sjalen

I have to admit not having seen that many Danish castles but Frederiksborg is certainly my favourite one. In fact, not only amongst Danish but European. It has all you want in a castle, despite not being medieval but renaissance. Started as one complex in the 16th century, it grew to three different ones in the following one, when King Christian IV who was born here extended it. All on islands in the little lake. In 1859 there was a great fire, and some rooms were damaged, but have been painstakingly restored. The royals could not afford the restoration but the Carlsberg foundation could, and thereby the royals moved out and the castle was opened to the public as a national heritage. You can visit 70 rooms, including the Great Hall and there is also the castle church, popular for weddings. When you are tired of the interior, you can stroll around the great gardens outside, or even walk...

Places worth seeing..

by Durfun

Definitely go up the two towers for views over the city (1 of them is a church).Do a canal tour from Nyhavn. For beaches & day trips, I strongly recommend Fyn (pronounced Fyoon) & Odense (pronounced Oons). Great places :)Perhaps you could also visit Aarhus - a uni town with a lovely Open Air Museum, with woods behind leading to a nice beach! Travel time to here is about 1.5 hours.

Traditional danish houses.

by cachaseiro

In denmark you will see quite a few houses with a roof made out of straw. This used to be the way all houses were made and it looks really cool. The main problem is that they catch fire easily, so therefor insurance is high on these houses. That means you don't see too many these days, but they are still there, so come and see them before expensive insurance kills them.

Legoland

by cachaseiro

Legoland is the most famous amusement park in western Denmark. It´s situated right next to the original LEGO facotry and has for many years been a must among danish families to visit and people actually come from all over the world to visit the park. The cool thing about the place is that there are many things in the park that challenges the kids creativity.I would say the park is a must if you bring your kids, but most adults on thier own would probaply wanna skip it as it is really a kids thing.

Toy Museum at Den Gamle By

by Dolly2010

The Toy Museum is situated in a big warehouse that has been brought from the town of Næstved in Denmark. There are around 6000 pieces of toys from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century. The first thing one comes across after entry are the funny mirrors where you can see funny shapes of your body. Then there are boy's toys displayed like various types of vehicles and mechanical toys, tekno toys and wooden blocks made by prisoners. The first floor has a huge collection of girls' toys and you know why I was there for so long and why I took so many pictures there. More pictures in my travelogue. This museum is by far the most attractive muceum at Den Gamle By. The museum reflects the importance of toys in building the later lives of boys and girls as has been believed from time to time. So specific types of toys were meant to shape the lives of children in specific ways and even build their...

Den Gamle By

by Dolly2010

Den Gamle By or the Old Town is an open-air village museum in Arhus consisting of 75 historical buildings gathered together in the spot from around 20 towns across Denmark. It was opened in 1914, making it the world's first open-air museum of the kind. Till date it remains one of the few museums of this kind and has millions of visitors every year. The buildings collected have been placed here in an organized manner so as to form into a small village of Denmark from the period between the 16th century and the early 19th century. Half-timbered houses originally built in different parts of the country but brought and stored here, and all the ponds, roads, windmills, wells, groceries, post office, schools, etc. make the village look like one from the pages of the fairy tales of hans Christian Andersen. The village itself is a great attraction but an added attraction is the fact that each...

Inside fredensborg palace

by mallyak

The focal point of the main palace was the dome hall, which measured 15 x 15 m and had a height of 27 m. The sumptuous stucco on the walls and ceiling was by C.E. Brenno. The large room opening onto the garden also featured beautiful stucco work on the ceiling, as well as a magnificent ceiling painting by Hendrik Krock.

Fredensborg Palace is a palace located on the eastern shore of Lake Esrum (Danish, Esrum Sø) in Fredensborg on the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in Denmark. It is the Danish Royal Family’s spring and autumn residence, and is often the site of important state visits and events in the Royal Family. It is the most used of the Royal Family’s residences.
