Frederiksborg Castle
I have to admit not having seen that many Danish castles but Frederiksborg is certainly my favourite one. In fact, not only amongst Danish but European. It has all you want in a castle, despite not being medieval but renaissance. Started as one complex in the 16th century, it grew to three different ones in the following one, when King Christian IV who was born here extended it. All on islands in the little lake. In 1859 there was a great fire, and some rooms were damaged, but have been painstakingly restored. The royals could not afford the restoration but the Carlsberg foundation could, and thereby the royals moved out and the castle was opened to the public as a national heritage. You can visit 70 rooms, including the Great Hall and there is also the castle church, popular for weddings. When you are tired of the interior, you can stroll around the great gardens outside, or even walk...
