Amalienborg

by mallyak

Thanks to the then head of a major Danish shipping corporation, Copenhagen was given a new park a few years back. Located a 5 minute walk North of Nyhavn, and right next to the Royal Castle Amalienborg, it is one of the parks tourists invariably visit, simply because it's located next to some the major sites in CopenhagenAmaliehaven is located so that when standing at the right spot, you see the Amaliehaven fountain, Amalienborg - royal castle and winter home of the Danish Queen - and Frederiks Church, also known as Marmorkirken or The Marble Church, at one glance. The tour boats now make a stop in the harbor at the quay so you can get this shot yourself from the water

Kongens Nytorv

by mallyak

On the other side of downtown Copenhagen, you find one of Copenhagen's most popular squares - Kongens Nytorv. Every spring, graduating high school students come and dance around the equestrian statue of King Christian V from 1688 in one of Denmark's oldest educational traditions, celebrating their graduation

Tivoli Gardens and amusement park

by mallyak

Today, Tivoli is centrally located right between the Central Station and the Town Hall Square at the edge of downtown Copenhagen, and is visited by virtually every tourist visiting Copenhagen when it's open. Tivoli generally follows an oriental/asian theme, although a few recent additions like the Valhalla restaurant have broken with that tradition.Tivoli is a place of lights and illumination, which makes Tivoli a very special place to visit once it gets dark. You have to go to Tivoli twice (or for a while) to experience both Tivoli atmospheres: In the daytime the abundance of flowers and the beautiful buildings, in the night time the many lights and an atmosphere that could be taken directly from a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen

Bornholm

by solopes

In my first visit to Bornholm I got the idea that it is a place where locals go in search of nature and beach. My idea is also that the waters must be so cold that... brrrrr. I've been there in a sunny (cold) day of Fall, and that didn't happen, either. I will visit it again in September, and will try to have a deeper look. This time I will fly, despite the curious way to take the ferry: Leave Copenhagen by a tunnel, that becomes a bridge entering Sweden from where the ferry leaves to Bornholm's island. Complex but functional! I did fly, I did have time to see more things in Bornholm, and several pages are growing in detail.

The Little Mermaid

by traveldave

The Little Mermaid is the most famous landmark in the city of Copenhagen. It represents a character in a story of the same name by Copenhagen's most famous son, Hans Christian Andersen. It was donated to the city by Carl Jacobsen, the son of the founder of the Carlsberg Brewery. The Little Mermaid is just one of many statues commissioned by the city of Copenhagen as part of a program to display sculptures of classical and historic figures in parks and public areas throughout the city. The Little Mermaid was unveiled in 1913 at its current location on Langelinje Street. The statue was designed and sculpted by Edvard Erichsen, a local and relatively unknown sculptor. Its face was modeled after that of ballerina Ellen Price, but because she was reluctant to pose without any clothes on, the body is that of the sculptor's wife, Eline Erichsen. Several times over the past few years, the Little...

Meet Danes at home.....

by Dizzyhead

Here is a web address where you can go and meet Danish people in their homes and see how they live. For 50 € you get food, coffee and wine. These things can change perhaps and the price too. Get to know some Danish Vikings, book and check out how they live.

Elsinore Castle

by solopes

This romantic castle, in Kronborg, a few kilometers north of Copenhagen, is a beautiful visit, and, in your way, an opportunity to see how the inhabitants of Copenhagen deal with nature. The fields denounce the care and pleasure felt by the people cultivating them. And, in the castle, history and literature blend well.

Cities to visit..

by Durfun

July is the best time to visit DK! Nyhavn in Copenhagen will be buzzing, great atmosphere & nice weather. You could do a trip to Arhus (train to Valby, then ferry + bus) & visit the Old Town with the open air museum. Very nice :) It also has a nice beach and woods behind it. This city is a university town.Billund offers Legoland, if that appeals to you, and you want to buy stuff from there!

Aalborg

by lbhspatriot

Aalborg is a large and vibrant city in Jutland. It’s location on the Limfjord makes it an important harbor and a tourist destination. This is a young city, where students from all around the world gather to study, party and experience the Danish living. City’s history traces back over 1000 years and the proximity of Lindholm Hoje places Aalborg on my “archeological map” not only an entertainment spot. One of the best landmarks of Aalborg is the Aalborghus Castle and many beautiful, amazing and picturesque old houses in the city center! This is mainly pedestrian city, much easier to tour on foot then using a car – as many one way streets and traffic restrictions make life impossible for drivers! When you are in Aalborg you have to visit “The Street” (Jomfru Ane Gade) where all the major pubs and restaurant are located. This street requires two visits. One, during the day when it is a...

Lindholm Hoje

by lbhspatriot

"Lindholm Hoeje" means "the small hills of Lindholm”, but in fact it is one of the oldest burial grounds in Denmark and with more than 700 graves it is recognized as Scandinavia’s largest Viking burial ground! Located near Aalborg city this is a place you should visit if you want to learn more about the history of Denmark, as Lindholm Hills are not only a major Viking burial site but former settlement, so there is a lot to learn and explore. You can visit the Lindholm Høje Museum in Aalborg you find two exciting exhibitions about the Vikings and the historic sites around the Limfjord. You can try sailing a Viking ship and visit a Vikings house. Outside the museum Viking graves can be seen. The site is extensive and impressive, I recommend a visit to everyone. You can drive there by car or take the Bus no. 2C (Uttrup Nord) from Aalborg
