Experience from hell - Parking at Legoland!

by lbhspatriot

Ok, I know Legoland is a huge theme park with thousands of people visiting it everyday. But what we experienced trying to find a parking spot can't be properly described by words. Yes, it is well organised because it is Denmark we are talking about, but also there is simply not enough space to park all these cars! It takes ages to get directed to a free spot and once you get there it might turn out that you have to squeeze out of the car cause you simply can't open the door wide enough. Not to mention it is VERY expensive to park anywhere near Legoland. I don't know... maybe come by bus?

safest country in the world

by tracknfield

honastly i do not know of any tourist traps in Denmark. I lived in Denmark for 11 months and never ran into any problems of being treated different for being an american or anything like that. Danes are very nice and friendly after they get to know you and will give you a helping hand whenever it is needed. Danes are very fun and loving, mostly just like to have a good time. If you do not like to party-beware.

Danish people like Danish creditcards.

by Icybeach

Be careful when you go shopping, specially in towns (outside of Copenhagen). Most shops don't take international creditcards, which I think is really weird since I was able to use my Visa card in places like Penang in Malaysia. Some restaurants don't take creditcards either (Danish banks issue Danish creditcards called "Dankort"). I don't know why this is, really, I don't think it's very welcoming not to accept a Visa card... Danish companies should reconsider. But, there are many ATMs, so if you remember your PIN code there shouldn't be any trouble.

Electricity bills

by sabsi

When you rent a house be prepared that after leaving you will have to pay A LOT for electricity and heating (especially when you have floor heating, a sauna or a whirlpool) !!! We almost broke down and cried in the rental office - and searched for our last coins in everyone's pockets to pay the bill!!! Oh... and cleaning the windows is a pain with the salty water at the sea!!! Switch the floor heating in the bathroom off. Like this you save at least a bit! Try to use the fireplace. Ours didn't really work though. We spent lots of money on wood that never made the house any warmer ;-)

by kucha

The tourist buses begin arriving early in the morning with tourists crowding around to take photos of the Little Mermaid. It's very pretty -- as statues go -- but just a teensy bit over-rated. Read the fairy tale instead and buy a postcard!

by boltonian

The Little Mermaid. Supposed to be the big attraction of Copenhagen, we walked for 2 hours to see the famous statue, what a wasted journey. It is a small, poor quality statue with a backdrop of chemical industry. It is free, but still poor value for money at that price!!!!

Tivoli Gardens. No doubt one of the first things you will come across in any Copenhagen guide book. Tivoli is fine, the gardens are pretty, the rides are over-priced and would probably satisfy the younger kids but not the teenagers. Spend at couple of hours there anyway but it is not the big deal which it is made out to be. Luckily it is centrally located directly opposite Copenhagen's main station so it is very easy to find.

'Loreley'. I guess everybody has heard about it or seen a picture. And like everybody i wanted to go and see it, so i made my friend take me there. Judging from photos i´d seen before i thought it was kind of a recognizable size,... but i would have missed it if my friend wouldn´t have stopped me. It´s just sooooo tiny! Well during summer it could be different, but i wouldn´t do this trip out to the loreley in winter anymore. Frozen blue noses, hands, feet, icy cheeks and a half immoveable body are not worth it.
