With 420 islands - 92 inhabited - not all are connected by bridge (though the Danes seem busy on that point having united Funen and Zealand in the 1990's). There are lots of ferry routes lying internally within Denmark. Bridges carry more traffic, but there is something much more romantic about travelling a ferry - the poor man's yacht! Interaction with fellow travellers is actually possible. Time isallowed to experience Denmark from the watery medium. No car? No problem, just wheel that bike aboard! The picture is from the Soeby/Aero-Faaborg/Funen crossing with the town of Faaborg and the mighty Alps of Funen lying behind. Leave a Comment

A bicycle is perfect for cruising around Denmark. Your itineraries are as varied as your imagination and your maps. Remember that the prevailing winds will come out of the south and west, though when you are riding there always seems to be a headwind and there never seems to be a tailwind;-\ The websight below is a good starting point for planning a cycling tour through and around Denmark Leave a Comment

Larger ferries connect Denmar with neighboring countries at many points: Sweden, Norway, Germany, England, the Shetlands, the Faeroes and Poland. You'll know when you reach international waters by the scramble for the duty-free shop for which many is the only reason for the journey. Leave a Comment

Canal boat tour is an excellent and wonderful way to see the city of Copenhagen from different angle, i.e. from the water - canal and the harbour. It is a very popular tourist attraction in Copenhagen! There are several operators to choose from and the most popular and major one is DFDS which departs from Nyhavn near Kongens Nytorv in the heart of the city of Copenhagen. Guided tours cost between DKK 40.00 and 60.00 per adult and approximately half price for a child. Operating hours are usually between 9.00 a.m. and 8.00 p.m. during the summer months. Hop-on hop-off water bus without tour guide is another excellent choice to see Copenhagen from the water. The guided boat tour usually lasts approximately one hour. Attractions along the way include architectural buildings of Nyhavn, Little Mermaid, Amalienborg Palace, Holmen, the Stock Exchange building, the Royal Library, Trekroner Fortress and Cristianborg. Don't miss the canal boat tour when you visit Copenhagen on your vacation! Leave a Comment

Smyril Line has the only regular ferry-service for passengers and for cars from Hanstholm/Danmark to Iceland and they always make a stop as well in the Foroe-Islands. The ferry to ICELAND starts Saturday at Esbjerg arriving in Torshaven monday. Then you could make a stopover on Faroe Island, because the ferry will first go on to BERGEN to get some more passengers and it will back on wednesday to go on to ICELAND , arriving there Thursday. - I think this is a nice way to get visitors to the Faroe Islands Leave a Comment

Not so many years ago there was just a ferry-service between Danmark and Sweden and waiting-times were quite usual. In the year 2000 the Øresund-bridge to Sweden was opened by Queen Margarethe II and now it is really easy and fast to drive to Sweden. Toll for the bridge is for Cars up to 6 metres: EUR34 Cars with trailer/caravan, mobile homes over 6 metres EUR68 Motorcycles EUR18 Vans, minibus 6-9 metres EUR80 Coaches over 9 metres EUR146 ----- The combination of Øresund Bridge & Great Belt Bridge : cars up to 6 meters :Single EUR62 / Return EUR124 Leave a Comment

I had some troubles this summer with a other local danish car rentel service. The solution to the problem was the firm danskautorent.com it only for not danes but I/we could use it as I have a friend I know from VT visiting from Athens. When we got the car it was a Hertz rental car real good had run less then 3000 K and no problems at all. I can only recommend it. The prices are far below what you as a dane can rent a car for ("A chep" (Economy) Hertz rental car will be something like 3700 kroner for a week with 700 kilometers and extra charge beon this kilometers) We got the same classe of car for 2300 kroner with free mileage. BTW: A road trip around Denmark is about 2000 Kilometers. Theme: Car/Motor HomePhone: +45 80 20 50 10Website: danskautorent.com

Bus is cheaper than rail but on the major train routes you won't find bus service. The major money saving route is between Copenhagen and Aarhus and (to Aalborg / Ebeltoft once a day) The fare is nearly DKr. 60 cheaper each way.. no advance booking is necessary. And with an ISIC card you can avail another DKr. 130 student discout each way (except fridays and holidays) paying only DKr. 110. In Aarhus bus departs from central bus station but in copenhagen from Valby which connects to central staion by S-train. Leave a Comment
