by JuliWarfel

I arrived in Denmark via KLM flight which had a layover in Amsterdam- But once I was there, I became a little more adventurous with my travel choicesThe train system is good in parts, and insufficient in others. I used a combination of bus and train to get around. The larger cities are great for walking.I left Denmark on an overnight ferry (Fjord Line) up to Norway. The price was very reasonabe. All of my travel companions enjoyed the trip as much as possible (We sailed out on Sept. 11th and found out about the WTC on the boat!) I was a bit sea sick but dramamine helped and the boat was VERY nice.

We found it best to get around using a car. Everything is so spread out, it is nice not having to depend on anyone but yourself. The only warning here is, be careful about gas prices. They are very high.

From Norway you can take the ferries from either Kristiansand - Hirtsals or Larvik - Fredrikshavn. Its a 4 - 5 our trip. There is also a train station which connect Skagen to the rest of Europe. Airports? Only small ones nearby. Bicycle, train or car. Not in that order...(picture is stolen from the Skagen.dk page).

Well, by car, by train, by plane and if you want to go to Frederikshavn and you live in Sweden, then you can take the ferry from Göteborg to Frederikshavn.STENA LINE, with the normal ferry about 3 hours and the fest ferry SEA CAT, 2 hours.Infos: www.stenaline.se

Of course you can get to Copenhagen by plane, train or car - but there are ferry connections as well from different countries, e.g. Sweden, Norway, Germany and Poland. A very smooth way getting into a new city...

Getting to Denmark 'the best...

by phildeni

Getting to Denmark 'the best way' depends on where you are coming from. We took a rail/ car ferry from Germany. It was a short trip and very interesting.I had never seen a train locomotive on a ferry before that.I think the best way to get around any country is by car. Stop and go as you please.

I drove my car to Puttgarten (Germany) and got ferry to Rodby. Then I drove to Copenhagen. From Copenhagen I drove to Helsingor and got ferry to Helsingborg (Sweden). I drove by car - roads are excelent, good signed. Traffic except cities moderate.

Take a plane and fly directly to Copenhagen, most countries have direct flights.Buses and trains as well as free bikes. It is better to buy a pass which can be used for both the train and bus service, it also includes free transfer for bus and train.

by hoku

The train/bus system is great and like all danes, very organized! Get a schedule from the main station and purchase tickets sold by days, weeks, or months, if you need to.In Copenhagen, you can 'borrow' a bike from one of the many stands around the city, just put in your kroner piece (I think it was 10 or 20) and away you go! You get a refund by returning your bike at any of the allocated stands around the city.

Travelling by car from...

by Grete

Travelling by car from Scandinavia the easiest ( and only ) way to Denmark is by ferry. There are numerous different boats from Norway, Sweden, Germany, The Baltic States and Great Britain ( Have I forgotten any ?)We travelled around by car which allowed us to travel over most of the country over a fortnight ( It really isn't big you know ). They have a well buildt roadsystem - you can choose between the freeway travelling fast from A to B or you can choose the smaller roads marked with a small brown sign with a white Margeritte flower on it. The signs symbolize romantic and scenic routes for those who aren't in a hurry. Alot of people of course also recommend Denmark for bicycling, though I havn't tried that myself.
