Car is the best transportation in Denmark.I'm Was in North Denmark (Aalborg region) and in Copenhagen. Long bridge to Kopenhagen is not Cheap (cost about 40$ for car ) but is nice.
You can get to Denmark taking a ferry from Rostock in Germany. It comes to Gedser in south of Seeland and takes just over 2 hours. And the food they serve is very good I must say.
Buy a ticket at any of the automatic ticket machines - easy to use, even if you don't speak Danish. Machines take notes as well as coins - Danish of course!
I remember that our family borrowed bikes in Copenhagen, very smart system and very convinient.
