The church of st Bendts is the biggest attraction in Ringsted. It was built around 1080 by Svend Nordmand, the bishop of Roskilde. The church was made from stone and the lay-out of the church changed several times in history. Three other versions were in place, before the fourth and final version. The development of the church is shown by miniature models inside.
The church has a very nice interior and it houses a coin collection and also some old equipment that was used during masses for example. Also, some Danish kings were buried here, before 1341, after that time, most kings were buried in Roskilde Cathedral. In Ringsted, Valdemar 1st (the Great), 2nd (the Victorious) and 3rd (?) are buried, and also Erik Menved and Erik Plovpenning.
