M?nsted is a small village located some 12 km west of Viborg. Here you will find an old chalkmine, that can be visited fore 50 kr (2005 prices). Inside the mine there is a short movie (15 min) being shown on the chalk walls once in a while. Other attractions inside the mine are the cheese storages (beware of the foul smell as you get near). Outside the mine you can visit the old ovens and climb the wastechalk hills that today are partly overgrown with grass and weeds.

This is a local history museum that describes the town, and it contains a history of the local militia and swords and weapons used for battle and ceremony, a few examples of 19th century clothing, period furniture, and a replica of a shop, among other interesting things.
It's a nice place to visit, but in my opinion it's about average for a local history museum, in that there is nothing distinct to separate this from other local history museums. There are three floors of exhibits, though the text is all in Danish, which may make it hard for some.

The cathedral dates from the early 1100s. The model for the cathedral was taken from Lund in southern Sweden, and was subsequently modified as a result of fires and poor construction techniques. It was closed in 1862 due to risk that the vaults would collapse.
The present form of the cathedral is based on the Norman Romanesque building, and the church was taken down piece by piece are rebuilt between 1864 and 1876.
A revered local artist, Joakim Skovgaard had covered the church with frescoes between 1901 and 1913, and this work is the signature of this cathedral and it is essentially what sets it apart from other churches.

I can like these two mines. There are few kilometres between the mines. At the website of Daubjerg Kalkgruber you find the sentence “Kort – Gruberne” in the legend. Kort – Gruberne means Map – Mines.

This street, just outside the Cathedral, is filled with historic homes and makes for a pleasant walk.

In the former town hall, you can go and take a look at some renowned Danish artists, though this is mainly dedicated to Joakim Skovgaard.

A pleasant surprise not to be overlooked

Viborg is a town of about 11,000 people, and while it is short on sites it makes up for it in history and charm. Viborg is a cathedral town in the center of Jutland, about 60 km northwest of Århus....
