The reserve centre is in Penijõe Manor, an 1835 example of the manor houses that Estonia is known for. The trails start from here and, in particular, lead to an observation tower, the view from which gives a good idea of the habitat on the reserve. I visited in mid July - and any bird-watcher will tell you this is not the best time because very little is singing, (except, on this occasion, a few warblers and a Golden Oriole near the manor house).
The storks nest near the manor house. Any bird-watchers reading this will be more interested to learn that, while I was taking this photograph, a pair of adult White-tailed Eagles was circling high overhead.
