Remembering "ESTONIA"

1994 September 28 ...............................................................................................The most tragic event that ever happened in the Baltic Sea- ferryboat "Estonia" going from Tallin to Stocholm drowned and almost 900 people were killed.On the western bank of Sorve Peninsula there a small bay not far from Ohessare. The realtives and friends of "Estonia" victims come here to rember their lost. They gather stones on the bank and make piramides, sometimes leaving a farewell notes or some small thing that belonged to the lost......... or just sticking some feather of sea bird.......... or a flower......

Make a Wish at Piret's Rock

Once upon a time there was a giant lady named Piret. She lived in a small island of Saaremaa. Piret and her husband Toll were building a sauna. And she was carrying rocks in her apron. one of the rocks slipped off and hurt her toes. Piret sat down on the rock and started to cry. she cried so hard that a swamp formed in that place. This rock still lies in the same place. It is said that the rock is magic. You have to go around it three times clock-wise and then tie a ribbon on some tree nearby. And then your wish come true. Seams it works 'cause most of the treesa and bushes around are all tied up with various strings, ribbons shoe-laces, even straps from plastic bags....the strangest tie i saw was man's sock:)Anyway if you a driving from Orisaare to Kuressaare look at direction signs near Kahtla- they will guide you to Piret's Rock. Perhaps it will be you dream that comes true:)
