Festive Fun
by SapineKuu
If you visit in December make sure you visit the Christmas Market in the Town Hall Square. Buying a strange felt hat for somebody as a Christmas present has to be good for a laugh. To get you in the mood sample such delights as hot wine, Estonian honey, and strange looking sausages.

Try Pear cider !
by meadwaytourer
Scandinavians seem to like ice-cold cider made with pears. The two most common brands available in Estonia seem to be Koppaberg and A Le Coq Fizz. Why this hasn't caught on in the rest of Europe, I don't know why - they are an extremely refreshing alternative to Strongbrow et al.
Linnahall and good estonian beer
by Kimv
If it is warm summerday or evening, it´s funny to buy a six-pack Saku or A le qoc beer and climb to the roof of Linnahall. Linnahall is communist style building near harbour. It is not in a very good condition and its quite ugly, but interesting. There is nice views over sea and city, especially evenings when sun goes down. Statoil gasstation next to Linnahall sells beer and snacks.

beer festival
by LisaPinUp
You should really go to Tallinn around the beginning of July when there is the biggest beer festival in North Europe. The festival lasts around 4-5 days. The beer and ciders are cheap and GOOD. There are some performers, music too. And great festival food!

Boat to finland
by wodensson
We got the boat over to Helsinki for the day. We caught the Silja line boat. It cost about £20 return. The boat was huge, had 4 different bars on it, but Finnish prices ( £4 a pint). The times are not very good on the boats going from Tallinn to Helsinki, they rather operate for the reverse. We had a few hours only in Helsinki, but that was enough, it was a right dump. The journey takes around 3 hours on the boat.

Held annually in July in the Tallinn Song Festival grounds, the beer festival is a great experience -- not just beer, but lots of food stalls, a fairground and live music.2004 it was held for 5 days, 7-11 July.Entrance fee for adults in 2004 was 125 EEK(approx 8 Euros).Opening times: 15-00 to 00-30
Estonian Song & Dance Festival
by Ben-UK
I was fortunate to be in Tallinn this year (2004) when the Estonian Song & Dance Festival was held -- it's held every 5 years.Thousands of folk singers and dancers, bedecked in national costume, flock to the festival grounds from all over Estonia for a celebration of the country's musical traditions. This year, 796 choirs and 51 orchestras performed during the 2 day festival.Should you be in Tallinn next time it's held you must visit -- a great opportunity to experience Estonian folklore.
Why they say Tallinn limps...
by Lodestar
There is this saying that Tallinn is a city that limps :)The reason being that there are two streets that run almost parallel to eachother from Toompea down to the down town - from the Nevski cathedral to the Niguliste church near the town hall square. Anyways - the streets are called Long leg (Pikk jalg) and Short leg (lühike jalg). The whole area is filled with nice little cafes, mystical back yards, strange gates and looks increadably mysterious during the night.
