Be sure to visit Lake Ohrid. The town, its monuments and the lake are UNESCO World Heritage sites. Among the sites to see is the monastery church, Sveti Jovan Kaneo. It was featured in the Macedonian film 'Before the Rain.' Sharing a glass of rakija with the the woman who is the guide at the church. The grave markers in Tetsove near mosques and in a Dervish Monastery are very striking in their design. Almost all were circular, and many went from narrow bases to wider, carved tops.
The language from Macedonia doesn't make any sense to other people from the West. But when you are in Macedonia, try at least a few words to speak. The Macedonian people will appreciate that!
