    The Mountain Villages: Dolno Divjaci

Dolno Divjaci - some houses are decaying
    4 more images

Dolno Divjaci ("lower" Divjaci) is about halfway between Kruševo and Pusta Reka. It is a nice small village, but as most of these mountain villages, it also suffers from the migration into cities. Thus, today there are only a few, mainly older people living here.

Gorno Divjaci: Nikola Karev was a teacher here

Gorno Divjaci is probably the most beautiful of the mountain villages around Kruševo. You can reach it by car in about 20 minutes or better, if you have time, in 2-3 hours on foot. Today only a few tens of inhabitants still live in the village and many of the houses are empty. Nevertheless, the village is very clean and well preserved - coming here gives you a feeling like travelling back in time...

To reach Gorno Divjaci by car, follow the road to Pusta Reka. After you have passed near Arilevo and through
Dolno Divjaci, continue for about 2 km, turn right at the (only) junction and follow the small road up to the village.

Follow the Creek Up to the Lake

The creek forms many little ponds...

Kruševo offers many nice walks and hikes. A nice walk which is rather easy is to follow the road to Prilep out of town until the first shart turn to the right. The the road crosses a valley wth a little creek. There is a trail going up along the creek all to the lake behind the Ilinden Monument. The creek is cascading of rocks and form many little ponds along the way - very enjoyable! It takes about one hour of walking.

Don't Knock Over the Greek Tortoises!

When you travel in and around Kruševo (and probably elsewhere in Macedonia as well) during the warm season, you can often see greek tortoises (testudo graeca) along the road side. Please watch out not to knock them over with your car. When we see one in on or near the road, we usually stop and carry it to a safe place away from the road. Unfortunately, too often the tortoises one sees along the roadside are already dead, run over by cars - what a pity!

I think that this is the highest place where paragliders can make their take -off . I have been few times in Krusevo and always I could spot paragliders .
