Two restaurants were recommended to us as the best in the city – Antiko and Sveta Sofija. Both are very good, and it would be very hard to pick the better one, so we will not even try to do that.
Antiko is probably the best known and the most popular restaurant in Ohrid. It is situated in massive, stone building of an ancient appearance (but we could not find anything about it), near the shore of Ohrid Lake. Beautifully designed interior of Antiko is decorated with exquisite and delicate lace-like woodcarvings. The atmosphere of the restaurant completes discrete and very appealing Macedonian traditional music.
If one is about to have a lunch or a dinner in a romantic, calm and very pleasant atmosphere, in the very special place – Antiko is the certain choice.
Favorite Dish: We have tasted several dishes in Antiko, all of them excellent. Samuilovi prsti (Samoil's fingers), no matter how odd its name may be, is the very good, plane meat dish. For those curious about local specialties – pindjur, dish made of tomato, paprika and garlic, is the must-taste. Macedonian version of Oriental cake called kadaif is very good dessert pick.
Antico Restaurant is the only one in Ohrid who have licence to serve, Ohrid trout, and prices wich reflect the fact that is protected!!As of August this year price for 1kg of Ohrid trout is €60.
Favorite Dish: Ohrid Trout prepared with Tomatoes and herbs "Makedonska Pastrmka"
Once you enter the restaurant you know that it's going to be difficult to express how you feel there. The atmosphere is pleasant and peaceful, but lively. Decoration is totally local, but far from being excessive. Music was also typical until they realized that I was Spanish. They changed the tracks but they stood in the same mood. How did these guys managed to play a suprisingly accurated selection of Spanish classic songs without sounding too cheesy?
The list of dishes was quite varied and prices, except for wines trout and eel, were perfectly reasonable and the service was pretty efficient and not too slow or too fast: they kept the tempo of our "dinner for two" without any intromission.
Favorite Dish: We had Taratur salad, Shopska salad, Piroshki and Macedonian Tava. All the dishes were delicious and focusing only on one of them would be a shameful crime.
I recommend to make a reservation just in case.
If you want to eat lots of meat, local style, while listening to foot stamping Macedonian gypsy music in a cosy, smoky restaurant, this is probably the best choice in town. Whatever you order, you can be sure it will include a large slab of meat, and a side dish of three small vegetables, maybe peas. If you are feeling really brave, you can order some of the local specialities, like Pellister's Eyes, whatever they are. The real hard core specialities need to be pre-ordered at least three hours before eating, but the chef's special can be picked up on the spot.
It's one of the most expensive restaurants in Ohrid, but still very good value by Western standards.
This restaurant serves excellent Macedonian food and has a good selection of local wines. The Ohrid trout is always fresh and service is superb. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed, and even when full the place does not feel crowded. The restaurant is a little more expensive than average for the area though.
Ohrid had several kind of restaurants there is one quarter with more italian restaurants and pubs and other turkish quarter full of minarets and restaurants with and old marked turkish style where you wont fins beer to drink, just milk or tea ....
Antico its on the way from the harbour boulevard to Sveti Sofija church so easy to reach without guide.. its on the right side of the street in a light steep of the street
The staff is really nice and food is delicious, prices are absolutelly affordable
In the incredible ambience you can get PERFECT LOCAL DISHES and LOCAL WINE , of course :)
Favorite Dish: All kinds of vegetable FRESH SALADS.
My favorite salad is so called " Shopska "
Tomato + Cucumber + Onion + the best macedonian white cheese .
The thing with Macedonia is that wherever you go, you are surely to find great food. This is a restaurant in Ohrid where we ate once. They have great traditional food & the thing you always get with your meal is Sopska salad (with fresh goat cheese). It's great, but not after 5 days, hehe. And if you finish the dinner with some Macedonian wine - it doesn't get any better! :)
The prices are a bit higher than usual (considering the prices in other Ohrid restaurants), but it's a nice place & all in all pretty cheap.
this is one of the best restaurants in ohrid. the food is just great and the traditional macedonian ambience makes you feel just like you belong there..
Favorite Dish: they serve traditional macedonian food, which is really good
The 60-seat "Antiko" restaurant is situated in the old part of the town on the road to the church St. Sofia. In "Antiko" they will serve you with fish specialties and other national and international dishes.
Favorite Dish: Lake Ohrid is famous for it's special variety of trout. Throughout the town and the surrounding villages you will find that the specialty in most of the restaurants is the Ohridski trout. Antika has, in my opinion, the best trout dishes. They served mine with creamy almond sauce. Also be sure to try the Macedonian wines. Ask your waiter to reccomend one to you.
