Fancy a Big Mac? Just hitch up the donkey and trot into town to the local McDonald's. Of course, there are other options: the usual Italian and Chinese restaurants and a decent Irish pub. But like so many places in the Balkans, it is increasingly difficult to find a restaurant serving local food. Tourists search for local colour, but local people yearn for the sophistication of foreign food.
No special tip for someone, because we has gone into so much of that Coffeehouses or restaurants during the journey ... You will alike and everyone has been satisfactory. Anyway, sizes were surprising for me or better: the "smallness" of the coffee portions. :))Espresso: like you know it. One Latte turns out strangely small sometimes there. The Cappuchino is also only a little one, but everything is palatable. Everywhere there you can get also little snacks. Good, certainly. I prefer personally Schopska salad, deliciously and enough.
There are so many pizzerias in Ohrid, but Leonardo is really one of the best in town because it is located right by the lake in the old part of town, and the menu has a lot of options. Before you hit up Akvarius or Lapidarius for a night of dancing, order a pizza and/or some crepes for a little energy! The prices are pretty standard, about 6-7 dollars for a pizza that feeds about 2-3 people. All the pizzas are delicious, and the crepes with nutella and bananas are as well!
The last thing you would probably expect to see in Ohrid is an Irish Pub...but there is indeed an Irish Pub in the centre of town, and it is worth a trip! The outside of the building is made of rich dark wood and looks rather intimidating at first, but when you get inside there is a very friendly, warm atmosphere and fantastic drinks! I didn't try any of the food, but the Gin and Tonics were great :)
This bottle of wine was a gift from a family friend my husband met in Struga. [Near Ohrid] It was his own private bottling. Hubby hauled it home and we finally drank it -- it was SUPERB!!! Now how to find this person ... I think that's our secret -- but there are other good wines out there;)
If you have had it with the local specialties ( there must be something wrong with you! Really, how offensive! jk!) or you just crave something familiar and easy to order ( margherita pizza with little " craps " anyone? ) than the " Pink Panter " is definitely the way to go. Burgers cost around 1-2 US dollars, and they are pretty damn good for not being American. There is a lot that makes these burgers different to the taste though, as the meat is a lot more flavorful and they add their own " special " sauce. Don't worry, it isn't a bad sauce. You get scared too easily! The fries are exceptional, and they are also drizzled with a special sauce. Be sure to check it out. There used to be another burger place called " Miami " but they went out of business in 1997, they had awesome burgers. They actually put the fries in the burgers!

The Ohrid trout or "pastrmka" is a delicious fish. My "family" bought one in Struga and froze it for our arrival. They cooked it lightly breaded and quickly fried. Yuuuuuuummmmm........There is a serious problem with overfishing and fishing practices as described on the website listed below.
T'ga za Jug -- or "from the south" -- is the most unique Macedonian red wine. I also like the wines made from the Vranec grape [such as Macedonian Country Red], T'ga za Jug holds a special place in my heart and taste!
The Ohridija is located in the newer part of Ohrid, right below the mountains. The outdoor dining room is great for warm evenings because you can enjoy the scenery and noise of the peaceful city. The food itself is wonderful, ranging from colorful Shopska Salata, to the Uvijac, an arrangement of meat and cheese. Definitely worth a visit! Everything!
