The Gazi Baba Woods are located on a hill north-east of the center of Skopje, north of the river Vardar.

Most locals from Skopje that I asked about the woods did not even know about them, and we had to show the taxi-driver on a map! Consequently, it is very quiet there, and a perfect place for some jogging, a stroll, or a picnic in one of the sheltered picnic places.

At the south foot of the hill, there is a British cemetery from the first World War, on the grounds of the Church of Archangel Michael.

Beneath the castle there is this lush park lookig at nort-east where is the main Mosque
Mustafa Pasa Mosque...really beautifull and you can see some pics in other tips ... This is the upper city where its located mostly of the mosques

This is the main view from the castle....the road just beneath it running to the west (Ohrid as well ) and the crowded new city just in front of...the back side of the castle shows better sights with some forest and less buildings running the stream

Paragliding Clubs

Macedonia, with its mountainous masses and the relatively easy access to them, is an extremely favourable area for this kind of sport. The inter-connectivity of the mountainous ridges, the wide valleys and ravines enable a person to stay in the air for hours and often flights of more than 30 kilometres in one direction are accomplished.

Vodno is connected to Matka via its ridge and it is in the close vicinity of Skopje which make this mountain perfect for flying. There are more then a few possible landing locations of which two are in the city itself. In very fine weather, the inter-connectedness of Vodno-Matka-Osoj-Suva Gora ridges, make flights possible even to Gostivar. This is a genuine challenge for anyone who has taken up this sport seriously!

Activities

If you are a sportist and do not want to stop with it while you are staying here, you don't have to.
You can find a basketball basket almost on every corner. There are few swimming pools in Skopje, one on the open air, open for everybody, the price is 100den for 2 hours. The tennis grounds are open also and the price for them is 400 den for 1 hour. There is small artificial lake very near Skopje, where you can go by the city bus. And there are lots of hiking places, and the most famouse is the hill Vodno in Skopje.
If you are very crazy about swimming, on August the 2nd in Ohrid there is a swimming marathon on which everybody can atke part. Last year few IAESTE students did. It is 8 km long.

Fitness Clubs
We all know that the care for our body is a care for our physical and mental health, at the same time. There are many places in Skopje where you can work out and do something for your look and health.

In fitness and body-building clubs you can work on you muscles and strengthen your body. They all have a fitness instructor and some of them offers additional services like bar for refreshment, a professional massage, swimming pool etc.

If your aim is to improve your condition and heart rate, aerobic is perfect exercise for you. In many aerobic clubs you work out in a group, with instructor, while a great music is playing. Most of them are part of the fitness centers.
