Macedonia Square, Skopje
The big square in front of the Stone Bridge over the river Vardar (in the back of the picture) is called Makedonija Square.
To the right of the square on the picture you will find the place where the house of Mother Teresa used to be, and the Trgovski Shopping Centre (called GTC by the Macedonians).
If you cross the Stone Bridge, you enter the Old Bazaar, Carsija.
In 2011 this square was one big construction site because of the "Skopje 2014" project. Several statues were placed and new buildings/museums are constructed around the square.
The first square on the city’s more modern side is a large area known as Macedonia Square. Surrounded by hotels and shopping centers, this square is where important occasions, festivals and other events are celebrated.
This squares holds many events such as meeting of Macedonian Harley lovers, exhibition of photographers etc.
The south side of Skopje is not the prettiest part, but it does have a fine central square. It's wide, it's clean, it's well maintained and it's full of people at all times of the day. The square, and the boulevards leading off from it, are where you will find many of the best cafes and restaurants in the city. If you want a good impression of the city, and see how Skopje can make a case for a capital in the European Union, then start your tour of the city here.
Largest square in Skopje, you'll have to cross it to reach the stone bridge and there are several shady benches to relax and watch the comings and goings.
This is the main square in Skopje. you can also see the building where I habe been working for a while.
It is one of the few that resist the heartquake.
