Would you like to get a free overnight stay in a good hotel in Milano? You then should fly with Alitalia to Skopje. *smile A long story, we should start our flight on May 22nd.... Alitalia in the strike, more as 400 flights cancelled. One changed reservation, called before, this was nice. But they did not manage the mass of the cancelled passengers. Also the day later although changed reservations, belated flights, discussions, transfers. Waiting lasting several hours on the airport in Frankfurt. Vouchers and hotels... like La Bussola in Milano (pictures here). Back to home it came still worse. Delayed because of the thunderstorms. Belated start by about one hour in Skopje. 3 guests were asked because of overloading to give their tickets back. It needs again. The connection in Milan away. Again transfer, again one hotel in Milano. For 4 hours no coffee in the morning, too early for this Italian hotel service. And no time for a coffee on the airport in Milano, because staff could not handled people when checking in. Too much. Only after my loud protest I could reach the plane on time. Thank you Alitalia, it was the first and last time I taken Alitalia. There are some other airlines, like Austrian or Balkan. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Skopje and Ohrid have airports. As I know Adria Airways provides service from Ljubjana, SLN Austrian Airlines from Vienna, and Croatia Airlines from Zagreb. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

The buses are more frequent, than the trains. Some buses are in very good condition, but not all of them. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

I recommend taking a plane to Thessaloniki and taking the train to Skopje from there. That's usually much cheaper than flying to Skopje or Ohrid directly (Sofia may be another such option) and quite easy (if you need more details, please ask). There's also a shuttle bus between Thessaloniki and Skopje for 25 Euro (the train only costs 12 Euro, 9 for students), to be booked over Kompas travel agency from Skopje. The taxi from Skopje airport into the city costs around 15 Euro if you order a taxi in advance (over tel. 00-389-2-9188 for example), otherwise it's more. You can take buses to travel within the country. The train network is not very expanded. There's also taxis (inofficial ones) that will take you to your destination for about the same price as the buses, but you need a local person to assist you with finding those taxis and negotiating prices. You usually find them at bus stations at the same time as the buses. It's safe to take them from my experience and they're usually faster than the buses. Also, within the cities it's the most comfortable to take the taxi. There's a lot of them and they're very cheap. But beware of taxi drivers that seem specialized on foreigners (they like to lurk around at bus and train stations, airports, tourist spots and in front of hotels), they will rip you off! Parking at Skopje Airport in the snow by shrimp56 The easiest [and most expensive way to Macedonia is by air. Here's the Skopje airport site for up-to-date flight information. http://www.airports.com.mk/ . You can take the train from Thessaloniki and from Serbia. Inside Macedonia the main way of getting around is by bus. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane
