Everyday, there are about 20 departures to/from Istanbul (and a few from Bursa) to/from Makedonija. They all pass from Skopje and go to different cities in the country.The buses between Istanbul and Skopje cost about 25 Euros oneway, and ittakes about 14 hours.The buses depart from Istanbul Esenler Bus Terminal (the one at the European side).
Bus is the most used public transport. In Macedonia all cities have bus stations.There is a bus service to Tirana in Albania. (One overnight bus)To Belgrade in Serbia there are frequent busses. The journey takes about nine hours.Sofia and Istanbul also have daily bus connections.In Skopje there is a new bus station
I recommend taking a plane to Thessaloniki and taking the train to Skopje from there. That's usually much cheaper than flying to Skopje or Ohrid directly (Sofia may be another such option) and quite easy (if you need more details, please ask). There's also a shuttle bus between Thessaloniki and Skopje for 25 Euro (the train only costs 12 Euro, 9 for students), to be booked over Kompas travel agency from Skopje. The taxi from Skopje airport into the city costs around 15 Euro if you order a taxi in advance (over tel. 00-389-2-9188 for example), otherwise it's more. You can take buses to travel within the country. The train network is not very expanded. There's also taxis (inofficial ones) that will take you to your destination for about the same price as the buses, but you need a local person to assist you with finding those taxis and negotiating prices. You have not much to do in Gevgelia, so, take a taxi for a tour around the town; you can find very nice green nature and landscapes, only a few kilometers from the town. After all, the taxis are not expensive in this country.

I took the coach from Tirana, Albania to go to Macedonia. It was a three and half hours trip to Struga which is along the beautiful lake Ohrid. The coach costed 10 Euro. The road was extremely mountainous. Snow moutains. To go to Ohrid from Struga, I took a shared taxi. I gave the driver one dollar and he gave me some changes. It took about 15 minutes. But I really recommend you to see the lake from Struga. It's more beautiful and natural. It's different.
Getting to Ohrid... Ohrid has an airport, so there's one sollution, but also, either by Bus, or a car from Skopje...Walks, and also there are buses that go to all the Hotels along the Ohrid riviera, very frequently and are not expensive at all. In the town, if you are too tired you can catch a taxi, though I doubt you would ever do that: ))
By Air - there are two internatinal airports in Macedonia, one in Skopje and the other in Ohrid.
