The M/B Brynhild each day makes two trips to and from Mykines. Every day it leaves Sorvagur harbour at 10.20 hours, arriving on Mykines around 11.00. The Brynhild 'sails' back at 11.10 hours. On saturday and sunday the boat leaves Sorvagur at 17.10 hours and goes back from Mykines to Sorvagur at 18.00 hours. Booking is necessary, call at 343030. A great way to go to Mykines is by helicopter, this is a sensation!!! The price is only 145 DKK for a trip from Vagar Airport to Mykines. It is I think the best way to go Mykines. Make sure you make a booking, a helicopter has only 8-10 seats! On the Mykines the whole islands was awaiting our arrival!! Such a nice island, nice people, beautiful nature, .... just WOW!!!

A unique way to get to Mykines is by helicopter. It's not nearly as expensive as you think, because the Faroese government heavily subsidizes passenger traffic so helicopter crews can get practice for their primary mission: search and rescue. But if no rescues are required, tourists can be ferried to remote locations (such as Mykines) for very reasonable prices. For example, fare from the Vágar Airport to Mykines is Kr 145 one-way. Travel time is about 15 minutes. As a rule, helicopters fly on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during the summer, weather permitting. Check the website for details on schedules and fares.

The most common method of getting to this remote island is to take the ferry from the town of Sřrvágur. The ferry dock in Sřrvágur is accessible by bus from Tórshavn or Vágar Airport. It's also a scenic 20 minute walk from the Airport or Airport Hotel if you're so inclined. The Mykines harbor is a very small inlet with extremely steep cliffs on all sides. Be prepared to make quite a steep uphill climb after you disembark. (Also note how easily bad weather might make docking in the harbor impossible...) During peak season (May - August), ferries run twice daily. Every day, the ferry M/B Brynhild departs from Sřrvágur at 10:20, arriving in Mykines around 11:00 (departing Mykines for the return voyage at 11:10). There is a bus departing Tórshavn at 9:15 that coincides with this ferry (bus fare Kr 90). For day-trippers, the return ferry departs Mykines at 17:20 Monday - Friday, 18:00 on weekends; buses back to Tórshavn will coincide with the late ferry. (this ferry departs Sřrvágur at 16:30 Monday - Friday, 17:10 weekends). Fare is Kr 60 per person each way. There are also unlimited bus/ferry travel cards available: Kr 400 for 4 days, Kr 600 for 7 days. Note that ferries can be delayed, and sometimes even cancelled, by adverse weather; have contingency plans in case you're stranded. Note also that I observed ferries to depart Mykines up to 10 minutes before scheduled departure, so it's a good idea to be near the ferry dock more than a few minutes early.
