Strong walking boots/shoes even if you plan not to do a lot of walking, you will benefit from the waterproofing in them.An umbrella is useless, instead back a couple of waterproof coats, so you can have one drying while you are wearing one, as it will rain. Although I went in summer I dont think you would really need thermals as the Islands have such mild winters due to the golf stream, so although you are far north it doesnt get too cold. Our tour guide who has lived on the islands for over 50 years said the lowest he has seen is -5 oC in mid winter but usually stays above 0. I would take one standard lens, so capture all the wide shots as well as zoom lens so you can capture the birds on the cliffs without having to disturb them Most things can be bought while out in the Faroe Islands, however might be more expensive, so try to pack eveything you will need
