Our hostel didn't include breakfast, so we decided to see what else was available. The tourist office pointed us to any number of hotel breakfasts. I asked about the coffeehouse across the street from the bus station; we were told the place had only "very basic" breakfasts, and that we'd be better off just paying up at a hotel. Well, thanks a lot for the advice, but we tried Kaffistovan anyway. Their selection of breakfast food was just fine, from bread and cheese to pastries to cold cuts. We liked it so much, we came back every morning for breakfast during our stay in Trshavn. As far as I know, this is the only coffeehouse open early in town. On weekdays, it opens at 7AM. Saturdays, it opens at 10AM. Kaffistovan is closed on Sundays.
We especially liked the pastries. I think my favorite was the croissant with Nutella filling. The first morning, the cashier even made pancakes specially for Sara (Note: pancakes are not normally served for breakfast in this part of the world). The food selection is a la carte. Depending on what you get, breakfast will cost you between Kr 20 and Kr 45. A large coffee costs Kr 10; refills cost Kr 5. by Lunaina The restaurant that belongs to the 4-star Hotel Foroyar on top of the road Oyggjarvegur has a relatively small card, but what they offer is real quality. It is a 4-star restaurant with a great view over the city. We ate there once when the sun was shining over the city, so excellent views!

Here's a motto for you: "Brasserie Hvonn: Faroese-American cuisine." Hmm... But anyway, despite the odd motto, the food is quite good. Service is quick and efficient, and the portions are quite large. This place is located inside the Hotel Trshavn, so you can expect plenty of tourists here. However, the majority of patrons were locals when we visitied, indicating this could be a popular lunch-hour eatery for Trshavn workers.
There is a reasonable daily special, which is what most of the locals were enjoying. But we weren't much in the mood for Beef Stroganoff. I had a pizza, which was reasonably priced, tasty, and very large. Sara had a shrimp pita which shared the same three characteristics. Beer was on tap, but we stuck to the Coke and Fanta this time. We decided to splash out and try the luxury restaurant on our final night in Trshavn. The atmosphere is wonderful, with tremendous picture windows overlooking Trshavn and the harbor. The service was excellent, and the food was well-prepared and of excellent quality. My one peeve: our guidebook said this place specialized in Puffin, but it was not on the menu when we visited. Oh well.
I had the grilled monkfish, which was fresh, artfully prepared, and tasty. An inexpensive option for dinner, especially if you like to eat early, is to go to a Caf. This particular one, Caf Natur, has a pleasant interior, decent food, and very good Faroese beer on tap. When you enter, pick any seat you like (the upper section is non-smoking through around 9PM). To order, walk up to the bar and tell the bar tender what you want. Pick up your drinks and wait for your food to be delivered to you. To pay, walk up to the bar and tell them what you ordered. Tipping is generally not expected, but feel free to put any small coins you get as change into the large Akvavit glass at the bar.
I liked the "Natur Burger," which isn't actually a hamburger but a chicken sandwich served on a hamburger bun. Sara really liked their "Nachos," but be aware they are made with Mozzarella cheese. Their pitas and tortillas are also interesting and tasty, even if purists might not be exactly thrilled. As for beer, the Caf has a full complement of brews made by Froya Bjr. I especially liked the Black Sheep Ale, as well as the Green Island Stout. A pint costs Kr 55-65, depending on what you get. A bit pricey, but since I was coming from Iceland, I was downright giddy at how cheap it was! 8) Theme: Pub/BreweryPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: arvegur 7, FO-100 TrshavnPhone: +298 31 26 25Directions: From the bus stop, turn left and follow Havnargta along the harbor. Burger King in the Faroes (sigh) by travelfrosch OK, first the good news: there is not a single McDonald's in Trshavn. The bad news: there is a Burger King. I'm sure it's just fine, and no doubt a godsend for anyone traveling in the area with children. It can also serve well as a budget meal, I suppose, especially for homesick Yankees craving a Whopper. I didn't eat here, but the burgers smelled just as good as they do around my home.
If I recall correctly, a Whopper value meal runs about Kr 60. If you're looking for a fill-the-tank meal and don't really want to cook for yourself, consider Sunset Boulevard, a sandwich shop in the SMS Shopping Center not far from the soccer stadium. You get a decent choice of sandwich or wrap "combo meals" to include "healthy fries" (baked french fries) and a drink for around Kr 65. It will not be the culinary highlight of your trip, but it's quick, (relatively) cheap, and filling.
I had some sort of chicken-and-cheese sandwich or other on ciabatta with "salsa" (more or less chopped tomatoes with a mild green pepper or two and a little onion thrown in). Sara had something similar, only in a wrap. Nothing to write home about, but perfectly edible. Baresso by gordonilla It was a saturday afternoon, and I had previously visited Baresso in Copenhagen. This was a more intersting experience it was located on one floor and had similar furniture although there was significantly more open space and soft seating. Great staff and good atmosphere. After a long walk from the city centre up to the heights of the Hotel Froyar and the arriving at the Nordic House I really needed a coffee - so after a look round the building, I enjoyed a coffee, a bun and some water. friendly and professional staff Daily opening hours are 10.00 18.00 (monday - saturday) Sundays and Public Holidays 14.00 18.00.
