Tinganes is the oldest part of Torshavn. The rocky area at the edge of the water was the 9th-century meeting site of the Vikings.

The Town Hall was built with Faroese basalt in 1894. It was a school until 1955. In the midseventies it was restored and converted into an office building before changed to its current use.

The view from the obelisk is splendid since one almost has a 360 degree view of the city, the port and the surrounding area.

High above Torshavn one can find a massive basalt obelisk erected in 1882 to commemorate the visit of the Danish King Christian IX's visit to the Faroe Island in 1874.

This house was built in 1880 with Faroese basalt. It is the residence and the office of the Danish High Commissioner to the Faroe Islands.

This is one of the pretty old houses in the old town, which was built in 1719 and restored around 1965. The house is today owned by the Women's Club of Torshavn.
