 | Faroe Islands Warnings or Dangers | Tips 1 - 6 of 6 | | Popular Warnings or Dangers | Miscellaneous Warnings or Dangers Tips | All Tips (6) The weather in the Faroe Islands is extremely changeable and should be taken into account when making your travel plans. An extensive tunnel building programme has been ongoing in the Faroes for 30 years or more but some islands can only be reached by ferry. Unfavourable sea conditions can cause delayed or cancelled sailings. The Faroes International Airport on Vágar can be prone to fog which again can cause delays and candellations to flights. Our return flight was repeatedly delayed and then cancelled due to Vágar Airport being fog bound. I ended up spending two extra days in the Faroe Islands because of the weather! Be prepared, if you are the sort of person who lives by tight schedules you may find the Faroese weather most frustrating, just do as the locals do .. accept it! Leave a Comment

Great weather is not an everyday occurence in the Faroes, so when it happens, jump up and enjoy it! My fiance and I had really hoped to do the Vestmanna bird cliff tour among other things, but didn't go when the weather happened to be great one day. I wasn't worried about it, because I like soggy weather. However, bad weather can make for rough waves, and the following week we tried two or three times to go, but it was cancelled. Don't make our mistake! Leave a Comment

The Faroe Islands have a lot of tunnels. The most recent ones have two lanes. Most older tunnels only have one lane, one no light. Make sure who gets to go first before you enter the tunnel. If you have to give way you can park your car in special places, but do not go in there too early as you can cause a line up of cars. Also always give way to buses and trucks as they cannot go on the special designed spaces for the cars.

The grass on the sea cliffs is doubly slippery when wet -and the gulfs and chasms of the volcanic landscape mean that what looks like a nice walk in the sun can become truly treacherous in a sudden fog -Guides are suggested- and for anyone not perhaps a Scottish hill farmer or an Icelander a VERY good idea! They can also fill out info. on flora and fauna that many might miss....and have a few tales of the supernatural to tease you with.... Leave a Comment
