Buses to Tapiola leave very often from various points in Helsinki, one of them being Kamppi bus station that was under major construction when I was there. In order to avoid mess of the construction site, the easiest way is to take a metro to Ruohalahti (last station), pass the underground passage and wait for the buses there.
The trip from Kamppi to Tapiola takes about 20 minutes, and buses 106 and 109 leave every 5-10 minutes.
