Fondest memory: GETTING BACK ON THE BUS AT THE BUS STATION AFTER A 10 MINUTE BREAK Well here is some more useful info.......The Orthodox Church of St Peter and St Paul 1837 A unique Neoclassical roud-domed temple with Byzantine influences, probably designed by the Italian-French architect Louis Visconti (known better as the designer of Napoleon's monument). The seven bells of the Neobyzantine bell tower ring out evensong at 6 p.m. on summer Saturdays.
Vehkalahti church from the 15th century. Originally medialval grey stone church dedicated to St Mary. The oldest building in Kymenlaakso province. The Neoclassical exterior is by C.L. Engel and it dates back to the renovation in the 1820's. Of the many mediaeval paintings, only the Holy Cross on the eastern wall has survived.

hanspeter_W.'s new Hamina Page
