Ok, I dunno if VT staff will count this as an advertising, but I want to give this tip. I have traveled around a lot lately and believe me what kind of pain in the a** ticket changing can be as well as non-flexible service. During past months I have changed and TRIED to change my tickets more than seven times from different places to different destinations. There are a couple of 'youth' travel agancies in Finland, and not to blame anyone, but to be honest, I won't ever buy my ticket anywhere else than from STA Travel. The way they handle things and service you are superb comparing others. The prices too (and this is inportant, right?) are far better than others. If you are considering buying a ticket to Finland, I suggest check STA's prices. I saved A LOT and I am happy to know that fact. You find their Finnish pages from www.statravel.fi and to be international agency they have other country pages too, naturally.
If your departure/destination is not there, just contact them. And one more thing, I am not a worker for the company, neither is any of my friend, relatives or anyone that I know. I just wrote this, because for me they have been more than I ever dared to expect. And one more time, I know what it is to try to deal things with non-flexible and rude agnecies....
By the way, in Helsinki is located right neat the Railway Station. Between Eatz and Amarillo (restaurants).

I flew into Helsinki with V-Bird recently from Niederrhein Airport Weeze - which isn't far away from Düsseldorf (30 mts by car of there's no traffic, 1 hour 15 mts by shuttle bus from Düsseldorf).
The airport and the planes are very nice and you can get quite a few good deals from V-Bird's website from time to time.
Staff is very friendly and for a no frill airline the prices for food and drink on the plane are reasonable as well.

Helsinki's airport is one of the nicest airports I know... and surveys have underlined my opinion quite a few times in the last years.
There are some good shops (make sure to get some bear or reindeer salami before going home, what a souvenir!), everything is close to another and people are really friendly. The only problem is that there are only two small non smoking areas in the whole place and the air in there is incredibly terrible!
As the airport is not in Helsinki but in Vantaa it's quite far away from Helsinki city centre. A taxi will cost you around € 30 but there's a Finnair Shuttle Bus which costs only 4,90 and it'll take you only 25 minutes to get to to Helsinki main station with it.

The Helsinki airport is located in Vantaa, quite close to the city centre.
If you are taking a domestic flight you are using Terminal 1 and international flights leaves from Terminal 2. Terminal 2 is actually also called terminal 3 and 4 depending on which check in area you enter. But don't worry about going to the wrong place, the airport isn't that big so you will not need many minutes walk to get to the right place.

I lately went to Helsinki by Finnair from Düsseldorf. I was surprised how nice their planes are ... comfy seats, enough space and drinks, newspapers.... these days all this isn't "normal" anymore I think. And if you are lucky you can get some great deals with them too....

If you fly abroad to Helsinki, you'll gonna see the one of worlds best airport. In year 1998 Helsinki - Vantaa Airport voted the world’s best for the first time and it was a great price and an honour for a small country. But Helsinki - Vantaa is very nice and high standard, altough it feel quite small,if you compared to Heathrow or Frankfurt.
But you found nice cafeterias and shops from there and what is important, the personal are very helpful and kind. And they speak many langauges too.

By plane.. The Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is actually located in Vantaa, not in Helsinki. Depending on your arrival time it can take an hour to get from the airport to the Helsinki city center.
The cheapest way from the airport to the city center is by bus which costs about 3 € (2 USD). Taxi is at least 17 € (14 USD) so even if the bus usually takes longer (it has stops on the way) it is much cheaper.

We only had 4 hours in Helsinki. Good enough for lunch, some shopping and a long walk. Dark falls early and in that twilight, this church on Senate square becomes a fairy tale.
