This restaurant felt like it was straight of the 1960's to 1970's, which has both good and bad aspects - keep reading. The decor is something like being in a log cabin in Lapland, especially if you sit so you aren't looking through the window to the street. The food is moderately expensive, but you have to expect that for a touristy place with exotic fare. Between everyone at our table sharing dishes, we managed to try just about everything on the menu. Most of the food would have been considered excellent in the 1970's, but it is just not in keeping with modern European standards, sadly. There wasn't a single dish that I would actually go back for again, which is really unfortunately because I adored the decor. The cocktails were very good.

What a wonderful restaurant in a somewhat building with a dilapidated exterior. The inside is lovely, though maybe a bit kitsch - with its Lappi-log-cabin decor... still we liked it. Food was memorable and the staff great. however do not let them bring you the menu translated in another language aside from English: the Italian version was hard to interpret!
Favorite Dish: We had a mis starter and then reindeer as a main course - a very delicious reindeer steak... if you manage to take away the sauce, it's even yummier... finally I had the most memorable dessert: some sort of creamy pudding with cloudberries...

Very well presented and tasty food. Also the wine was great! Beware, a meal for 2 cost us over £100. But you must try the traditional Lappish food!
Favorite Dish: Reindeer steak was great,
also the mixed starter is a good way to taste a few delicacies.

The restaurant is decorated in a lappish style, with wooden tables and benches.
It is very nice.
the food is good with traditional lappish plates.
still it it is a little bit expansive.
It is better to make reservations, it is easily full.

Restaurant Lappi in central Helsinki is a good choice if you want to get a feeling of not being in a major city but rather up in the northern part of Scandinavia.
Food, interior, design and friendly service are the major things that make the Lappi Restaurant a 'must' place to visit when you are in Helsinki.
Pure and most of all fresh Finnish ingredients in all dishes give you a true experience in Lappish cousine.

If you aren't going to Lappland but staying in Helsinki, try this one! You can't tell the difference between this place and some restaurant in Lappland.
Open daily, weekdays 12am - 10:30pm and weekends 13pm - 10:30pm as well. I recommend to make a reservation before going since this place seems to be full all the time! The menus are available in 10 languages.

Even if the decoration is a bit overdone and the prices are difficult, the food is extraordinary. You cand try the Elk or Raindeer or a more usual salmon. Great!
Favorite Dish: Elk

Lappish style, very tasty food from lapland ( reindeer, fish, cheese,...), high quality wines.
Best to start with a tear of a reindeer and to and with lappish coffee.
Favorite Dish: grilled reindeer filet

19/1 Just returned from Helsinki

We only had 4 hours in Helsinki. Good enough for lunch, some shopping and a long walk. Dark falls early and in that twilight, this church on Senate square becomes a fairy tale.
