The Perho, which is run by the Helsinki Culinary School, is located a bit outside the centre near the Rock Church.
Future chefs, waiters and waitresses are working at the Perho as part of their vocational training. Due to a lack of experience (especially with foreign travellers) misunderstandings can occur but this does not really matter as the service is very friendly and helpful.
Favorite Dish: The menu that changes according to the season offers traditional Finnish dishes to a price well below the Helsinki standards.
When I was there in the summer you could order meat and fish from the outdoor barbecue and a spicy rice dish was offered in addition to the regular menu.

It is a school. So do not expect an elegant environment. But food is really good, waiters are young and friendly, there was live music (it was summer) and good value for money!

19/1 Just returned from Helsinki

We only had 4 hours in Helsinki. Good enough for lunch, some shopping and a long walk. Dark falls early and in that twilight, this church on Senate square becomes a fairy tale.
