Very ultra modern decor, fresh outta the Superman(chrisopher reeve) home planet JOREL. Cool music from the adjacent bar can be heard(warning, older travellers might not like this.) Staff friendly, efficient. Semi-dressy...it is a hipster hangout. Priced right.
Favorite Dish: Opted to go for small plates...a great decision. 2 reindeer, with sauteed mushroom, 2 ahi tartare, with quail egg, meatball and Finland fries. The second best meal I had on my 3 week vacation.

Restaurant Teatteri enjoys residing at the one of the best spots in Helsinki, in Swedisth theater building at the western end of Esplanadi park. The restaurant complex has several different places to hand around, including a fine dining restaurant, a caf? and a couple of bars.
We visited the caf? on Pohjois-Esplanadi, located in front of Academic Bookstore, just next to the Marimekko store. The caf? is quite small compared to the rest of the restaurants, but this adds some intimacy. The noise level keeps down, too. The window tables are the best, as there is so much to see on the streets.
They have an excellent selection of salads. The base salad itself tastes very good and then you can select two or more toppings, such as salmon, tofu and olives. The salads are made on the premises, so the freshness is guaranteed.
All normal coffees are available and the staff is willing to customise them, if asked. The sweeter offerings are quite small, cookies and similar stuff.

The restaurant and bar are excellent - my visit was during a Saturday evening. The place was busy, and it was enjoyable to visit all the different venues within the building. Restaurant, bar, cocktail lounge and club - it had a mixed clientele and it is well worth a visit.
Favorite Dish: the food was all excellent!

The restauarant backs onto the Swedish Theatre and has a lively atmosphere. In the summer there is a well used terrace.
I have been there several times and there is both a cafe diner and a very chic restaurant. For those of you with a need to stay out late there is also a cocktail bar and a dance hall.
Favorite Dish: steak and salad
of course do not forget their wonderful dessert menu.

This restaurant at the far end of Esplanaden is a typical seen and must be seen place. The interior is very stylish and trendy. Outside they have a terrace where it can be very crowded with good weather. Not today though.
But the food i got was good. We had a salad. They have prepared a bowl with the basic greens and you yourself can decide what toppings you want to have, ie salmon, tunna, sundried tomatoes, fried spicy chicken, parmazan. And finish it off with a dash of olive oil or other dressing.
Favorite Dish: Only been there once and the salad was pretty good but no favorite dish as far. They also have an a la carte restaurant part.

19/1 Just returned from Helsinki

We only had 4 hours in Helsinki. Good enough for lunch, some shopping and a long walk. Dark falls early and in that twilight, this church on Senate square becomes a fairy tale.
