The Finnair Stadium by Henrik_rrb The second football-stadium of Helsinki, where the biggest team of the city, HJK Helsinki, is playing. The Finnair Stadium is not the biggest one I’ve seen, but still really nice. Takes around 15-20 000 spectators I would guess. When I was there it was far from sold out, maybe 3-4000, but still a good game. HJK against KooTeePee. The homesupporters were around 50 persons, while the awaysupport was standing in the curva, around 25 persons. I would guess that the name of the stadium is from one of the sponsors, the aeroplane-company with the same name.
Well, nothing special. A blue-white flag or scarf if you really want to support the hometeam, but most people in the crowd went there "civil". Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingDirections: Close to the Olympic Stadium.

Cycling @ countryside by city_guy Ok, I just had to take the challange. I made a trip up north to Kajanni to visit my x's grandma and wow, did it turn out absolutely fantastic. I never knew that the countryside would be so beautiful, after all, I've only heard from people's point of view. This trip just opened up my eyes. The mere total silence, the emptiness of the hustle and bustle of the city, the lack of fumes and sounds of horns.... the list just goes on. All I can relate are good things only, I enjoyed my 3 days there doing stuff I never thought I'd do in a very long time. Cycling to the lakes, sleeping extremly early, cutting firewood for the 'Sauna', taking walks and appreciating the pure nature... and this too, goes on. Note to self: - Make trips like this once every few years. For those of you who experienced this, I can understand why, and for those who have not... what are you waiting for?
Equipment? I would think you'll have to bring yourself. Leave a Comment Theme: Biking

Kisahalli by Scandic If walking and shoppins makes you boring and you want some exercise, Kisahalli is for you. Owned by Helsinki city, it guarantees your very cheap ticket to get in. (Max 2 euros) Once inside, you can go to the gym, make some gymnastics, play volleyboll or basketball, dance etc... What ever you want to. As a public place, everything is not that perfect (equipments) but you'll sweat if you just want to.
It is good to have indoor shoes with you and don't care about rude staff...It is nothing personal. They have act that way already 10 years. I'm not sure are same stupid guys still there, hopefully not. When I trained as a sprinter there we made always jokes about those guys and tried to cheat them and get in without paying. Hietaniemi beach in Helsinki by FinElina The most beautiful beach in Helsinki is Hietaniemi, near the centre. Of course in hot weather it is always crowded but the atmosphere is nice. You can play beach volley, swim in the cold sea or just enjoy sunbathing! Helsinki is mostly surrounded by the sea, so other beahes can be found for example in the Eastern part of Helsinki and in Suomenlinna, and almost everywhere where the sea is..
Swimming suit, sun cream, the usual stuff. Leave a Comment Theme: Beach Activities

Be aware of skiers in winter!! by FinElina Finns are especially a winter sports people following anxiously its icehockey team games. In summer we cheer up for our athletes (track&field team). The annual Finland-Sweden athletics meet collects a great number of spectators. In summer, in Helsinki there are many public places to practice sports, like fields for athletics (El?intarha), green, airy forests for running (Keskuspuisto), beaches (Hietaranta) and pools for swimming (Uimastadion), volleyball and beach volley! In winter, signs like the one below can be visible in nature... skiing and ice skating are popular winter sports in Finland! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by Knutt The Hardwall Aeena is brandnew and a wonderful place to watch an ice-hockey match. The local team is 'Jokerit' (www.jokerit.com) and quite successful -I think. Well, to be honest with you: I am not very much into ice-hockey and I have only watched one single match in my life. And that was Helsinki vs. Turku. Helsinki won, that's why I think they are quite successful... But it certainly was fun! Tickets can be booked either by phone +358 600 10 800 (mon-fri 08-20, sat 09-14) or at the website www.lippupalvelu.fi. Leave a Comment

There are lots of gyms in Helsinki, you really have lots of choices. Most of them are nowadays very high-price places where you have to be a member to get in, This good gym in Hakaniemi offers you a relaxing atmosphere and nice staff, with reasonable prices. I used to work-out there while I lived in Helsinki and once I move back, I'll train there again.
There are everykind of equipments and good bunch of cardio vascular machines. p.s. most Finnish actors work out here Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Viherniemenkatu 9Directions: near hotel Strand and Hakaniemi Hall / Market Square

Ruutinkoski by sinoda Why not hiking in Helsinki city. Try the route along the Vantaariver from its mouth stream upwards. Take the bus 71 from railway station and hop out at Vanhankaupunginkoski (Old-town's rapids). just walk up the river - first on the right side, then change side on the railway bridge. Walk on until you come to the the point where another river (Keravanjoki) runs into Vantaa, just keep the left side and head for the Ruutinkoski (Ruuth's rapids). This is a very agreable place, even though you may hear the close airport. Then walk back...
Good walking gear! Lots of water! A camera. Leave a Comment Theme: Hiking
