An imposing dark-red church build in a Byzantine-Slavic style on a granite hill of the Katajanokka neighbourhood. The church, build in 1868, is one of the most typical architectural example of the Russian influence in Finland. It is a massive building with golden onion-shaped domes that are topped by a 22-carat golden cross.

You can see Uspensky from almost anywhere in downtown Helsinki. It dominates the horizon and is a pleasant help to tourists in that respect.

In between the President's House and Katajanokka lies the huge red brick Upsenski Orthodox Church. The church sits atop a platform that gives you a great opportunity for some panoramic pictures. Unfortunately, the interior of the church is less appealing that the exterior. The actual exhibit are is quite small and items on display seemed to be put together hastily. This orthodox cathedral looks so Russian - even films that were supposed to be set in Russia were filmed here because of its looks.
