Finnair City Bus

The Finnair bus service is excellent, it takes you from both terminals at Helsinki-Vantaa airport into the heart of Helsinki City Centre, terminating outside of the main railway station.

The service has a limited number of stops - from the city centre to the airport, it stops only once behind the Scandic Continental and Crowne Plaza Hotels. On the way back from the airport there are a few more defined stops.

Total journey time is around 35 to 40 minutes; the cost is 5,90€ each way. They accept cash and major credit cards (Visa, Master Card, American Express and Diners Club International).

NOTE: If you have a valid Helsinki Card you will receive a discount on this fare.

Finnair bus at Central Station

We got this bus from Central Station (Elielinaukio), Platform 30 to Vantaa Airport. This is a good choice because the travel time is 35 minutes aprox. with only 1 stop at the Scandic Hotel Continental (north of the city). Buses operates every 30 minutes and the fare was 5,20€ (2006).

Cheaper than a taxi and faster than other public transport ways.

If you need to move from Helsinki airport till the center, i really suggest to take the Finnair bus.

For around 5 Euro you can load your baggages, jump on and be in the city or around your hotel in 30 min. Ask the driver if your hotel is a planned stop.

I loved my trip on Finnair. I left from New York's JFK airport, which is fantastic since Finnair offers direct flights to Helsinki. The trip takes around 8 hours non-stop but time always goes quickly for me on airplanes. While Finnair's planes do not offer a lot of extra gadgets sometimes found on the 'brand name' airlines, they do not have to since they are not really engaged in a hyper-competition of sorts, but their planes are certainly adequate, and first things first here, safe. They also offer some nice windows where one can take pictures of the sky such as the ones I've taken. I booked early enough in advance to consider this flight travelling on a budget.

Fly me ! Have fun with a Finn !

Finnair, bless 'em. are a lovely little airline with Nordic Ice Goddesses as cabin crew. On the other hand they don't come cheap (the flights rather than the trolly dollys that is).

Some years ago there were cheap flights from the UK on 'Buzz' a low-cost offshoot of KLM. When Ryanair gobbled them up the route was dropped.

Although German wings fly from Cologne, the low-cost boys seem to have steered clear of Helsinki.

One solution is to fly to Tallin in Estonia and take the ferry across. This makes for an interesting two-centre approach.

Helsinki is served by a multitude of airlines, with direct connections from all the Finnish destinations, from major European cities, from North-America, from Middle East and from Asia.

Finnair is the only airline connecting Helsinki on a direct line to Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing, Shanghai, Hongkong, Bangkok and Singapore in Asia, New York and Miami in the US.

There is more competition from the following cities using direct connections:

Brussels
Budapest
Copenhagen
Dublin

Madrid
Manchester
Milan
Moscow

Finnair Bus to Airport

Getting to the Helsinki City Center is easy with the Finnair Bus. The bus ride to or from the airport is around 35 minutes and costs 4.90 EUR.

In addition to the Finnair bus, there are other public buses that run regularly to the city. Just ask Information!

Despite being more expensive than normal domestic buses these buses have the advantage of only stopping once and being impossible to miss, just go out of the airport and turn left. about 5 Euros from the airport to the station.

Our Finnair Airbus

I lately went to Helsinki by Finnair from Düsseldorf. I was surprised how nice their planes are ... comfy seats, enough space and drinks, newspapers.... these days all this isn't "normal" anymore I think. And if you are lucky you can get some great deals with them too....
