Thai Restaurant ( Ex Valkosipuli): Big portions

by Zirpsis Updated Jul 5, 2009
    Kerava's Valkosipuli Restaurant

This has always been a popular family restaurant centrally located at the Kauppakaari promenade. Now, after recent change of ownership, it's a Thai restaurant, but with still equally nice (if not even nicer) lunch and dinner menus. In the summer time you can have your meal outside on a terrace in front of the building. But as the terrace is in the middle of the Kauppakaari Promenade so it's not a very peaceful place to eat with people passing by on all sides.

    Opening hours:
    weekdays 10.30 - 23.00
    sat 11.00 - 23.00
    sun 12.00 - 21.00

Favorite Dish: After yet another change of ownership, I've now had the pleasure of enjoying thai cooking in my home town. Excellent!

Onnellinen Kana: Down to earth chicken place

    by Dr.Styranki Written Oct 25, 2007

Very local restaurant, which servers deep fried chicken fillets.

Favorite Dish: Deep fried chicken looks and tastes nice. Don't try hamburgers or burritos, they are standard stuff.
Restaurant that belongs to Kerava. Fast service.

    Royal Nepal Restaurant: Nepalese specialities

Typical all Nepalese cuisine the way we are used to having it here in Finland. Nice exotic flavors (but not too spicy) on tin plates. They also serve Tikka and Kingfisher beers to add to the feel of originality.
However, the decor looks quite Finnish with seats in red velvet and white table cloths. Or what do I know, maybe it is just the way they have it in Nepal... Anyway, here there's also a large plasma screen TV set for you to watch and toys for small children to play with. All in all, a nice experience.

Favorite Dish: Try their lamb, chicken or veggies. I like their malai kofta and I'm especially fond of their spicy milk tea. They also serve inexpensive lunches during the week days but that I haven't tried.

    Chicken and drinks served here
    1 more image

For over 15 years, this small restaurant "The Happy Chicken" has been serving good food in their warm and welcoming atmosphere. Chicken theme is present both in the menu and the decor. I often eat here with friends and family and we have never been dissappointed. Their terrace is very popular in the summer because it's towards the evening sun. And they have such good humour in their advertising as you can see in the second photo. The text translates approximately: "tax refunds exchanged for good food, welcome to enjoy chicken delicacies".

Favorite Dish: Their special burgers are tasty and I love their warm apple tart (with rum marinated raisins in it)

Rosso, Kerava: Good food - reasonable prices

by Zirpsis Updated Feb 4, 2007

Bicycles in front of Rosso entrance

Belonging to one of the major restaurant chains, Rosso has a good standard menu, nice professional personnel, modern interiors and good location. They also have a small terrace outside and it's on the side of the afternoon sun. My first impression was just ok but after having a very tasty steak at a reasonable price, I was more than happy. Now, after some time has elapsed from the above, I can say that the service in this place is incredibly slow. I don't think it was so in the beginning, but now about a year later, what's happened?

Favorite Dish: So far, I have tried just steak. It was delicious and my companion also liked his. Also pizzas, soups, desserts etc. are on the menu. Update: now that I've had more pleasant experience from this place I'm just confirming that it's still recommend but it's not a culinary heaven if you know what I mean. It all depends on what you are looking for.

    Kulmakonditoria: Popular coffee shop

by Zirpsis Updated May 20, 2006
    Kulmakonditoria Coffee House

If you feeling peckish, why not try this popular little cafeteria at the Promenade. They have excellent fresh tea, coffee and coffee bread, pastries and salads. Also nice selection of icecreams. In the summer time, they have tables even outside.

Favorite Dish: Try their Korvapuusti cinnamon buns. Big and yummy!

In the summer, and only in the summer you can sit in one of the few terraces they have here and enjoy relax time with a warming sun. I would avoid all those places in the winter.
