The atmosphere at the Market Place is intimate, and it is the right place for meeting authentic Karelian people. Between shopping, try the local delicacies on the coffee stalls.
What to buy: Try the famous burgers called "Vety (Hydrogen)" and "Atomi (Atom)". You get the original ones only in Lappeenranta.
What to pay: Approximately 3 euros per burger.

Of course there are also 'modern' shops in Lappeenranta and quite a big shopping center but I liked those tiny shops in the traditional wooden houses much more.

I cannot think of unique item that you can get in Lappeenranta, but if you just need to do some shopping, beside the city centre stores there is this small mall also there in the city.
