Hello Everybody!
Now i would like to discuss Lappeenranta, e, specially its airport as a transit point to get St petersburg from Europe.
As for me i guessed how can i get Russia very cheap as the monopoly of airports and airlines cant allow to get this country cheaper than 100-150 euros for one way. After some time i checked ther rout map of Ryanair, the largest European low cost airline, and got its new city - Lappeenranta.
As you know, its located in 230 kms to St petersburg, about 3-4 hours by bus. As i live in Barcelona i have bought a ticket to Brussels (Charleroi), waited 3 hours and then had a flight to Lappeenranta. It was the cheapest way for me to get St Petersburg. As i analized the rout map of Ryanair, there are 3 flights from Brussels, Milan and Dusseldorf.
Before the flight i made reservation for the trip to St Petersburg to one of private russian bus companies. Thats way was the most suitable. I found some train but it doesnt have a direct way. At first you need to use local bus to Vainikkala railway station and then a train to St Petersburg. The price wasnt competetive. Privat Russian bus costs about 20-25 euros for one way and make delivery right to the address in St Petersburg. You may find icompanies in google search.
The road was about 4 hours, i had to come through 2 customs. Actually i spend half of the road for the Customs, but its also interesting experience)
Enjoy your travelling,
Alejandro!

As I live in Finland, obvious for me was just to drive there, from Helsinki the motorway is only till about Porvoo and from there it is normal roads. It was winter and snowing but the roads are OK and I made it in few hours drive. There are many stopover stations on the way, most at gas stations but some are different and unique, like this Antik Anna Cafe not far from Kouvula.

Lappeenranta is about 250 km from Helsinki, you can drive there and you can take a train. The view on the way to Lappeenranta is not very special, the best starts actually after you get there so you can also fly in domestic flight and get there much quicker.
